Job Summary & Responsibilities
About Global Investment Research Global Investment Research division (GIR) delivers value-added research to clients in the equity, fixed income, currency and commodities markets and develops global client-focused research in economics, portfolio strategy, derivatives and equity and credit securities. Our clients use these insights and investment ideas to develop their strategies.
GIR produces original, fundamental research and analysis of industries, companies and economies. Our research teams continually identify and analyze financial information, strategic issues and trends that affect companies, industries and markets on a regional and global scale.
Job Responsibilities Candidates would be required to work on a wide range of projects, including the following:
• Developing and validating quantitative models used:
1) To analyze fundamental datasets in the context of the broader macro picture, to form a market and thematic view in addition to alpha-generating investment strategies
2) To generate client tailored solutions leveraging GS data
3) To backtest investment strategies and analyze reasons for performance
4) To integrate new information/set of data into our database and track changes
• Designing and developing sophisticated software and systems using proprietary as well as modern web, mobile, and, desktop technologies:
1) To develop tools that support the investment process of the Global Investment Research division
2) To identify market trends and track factor performance
Other responsibilities include:
1) To work closely with the Tactical Research team, the Directors of Research, the Investment Review Committee members and potentially other teams to develop tools
2) To contribute through their analyses to writing and publishing research reports and presentations related to these themes
3) To communicate the conclusions of your work to the team, and potentially clients
Basic Qualifications
We are interested in applicants who possess skills in several of the following areas:
Mathematics: probability and statistics, differential equations, time series analysis, Monte Carlo methods, data mining, machine learning, regression and other numerical techniques.
Computer Science: strong fundamentals in distributed systems, databases, design and analysis of algorithms, implementation of programming languages and run-time systems.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of finance, stochastic calculus and financial models is preferred.
Accounting/valuation knowledge would be a plus, but not a must
