Role Summary/Purpose

The engineer will be responsible for specifying transformers used in onshore wind turbines. Transformers range in size from 4MVA to 40kva. Will be responsible for ensuring the right balance between cost, capability and lifetime, as well as system level integration and protection coordination with the rest of the electrical system. You will work with sourcing and manufacturing to ensure we have multiple qualified products from a variety of transformer OEMs and be the technical focal point
Essential Responsibilities

As the Transformer Component Engineer, you will:
· Develop specifications for main power and auxiliary power transformers, translating wind turbine system requirements into hardware definition.
· Support qualification and testing by suppliers.
· Develop and drive cost reduction ideas for transformers, cables and other related parts, to deliver the lowest cost of electricity for our end customers.
· Support root cause analysis of field issues , including testing to recreate failures and validate fixes.
· Provide technical leadership to personnel/ cross functional teams supporting the assigned project
· Implement plans to meet technical requirements of assigned components and systems
· Develop action plans to respond to issues/ problems
· Lead or participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues
· Recommend the approach to meet the technical and program requirements
· Participate and present or review in technical and program reviews
· Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
Qualifications/Requirements

· Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent knowledge / experience
· Experience with electrical systems in industrial or power generation applications
· At least 3 additional years of experience in Engineering position.
• Legal right to work in México. We will not sponsor individuals for legal permits or visas.
• In case of being a GEIQ employee, you must have previously occupied a position as an E3 or E4.
Desired Characteristics

• Engineering experience with DFIG generators
• Experience with low and medium voltage power distribution and breaker / fuse selection and coordination
• Experience working with wind turbine component design
• Experience with regulatory standards including NEC, UL, CSA
• Ability and willingness to travel 5% of the time
• Experience with design for six-sigma, design for reliability, design for manufacturability and design to cost
• Strong presentation and communication skills
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
• Ability to influence others and lead small teams
• Lead initiatives of moderate scope and impact
• Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously
• Effective problem identification and solution skills
• Proven analytical and organizational ability
