GE Transportation produces medium-speed diesel engines for a variety of applications including locomotive and marine propulsion and stationary power generation.

Essential Responsibilities

The Turbocharger Manufacturing Engineer will provide design support to the manufacturing and supplier quality organizations in an effort to ensure consistent product quality and proper communication of design requirements.

In addition, you will:

·  Provide daily support to the manufacturing / production team for the evaluation of non-conforming material and advising of re-work / repair decisions

·  Provide ongoing support to the supply chain team to evaluate supplier deviation requests, address quality concerns and work to improve/maintain overall supplier quality

·  Monitor the machining processes associated with turbocharger production and support the manufacturing team to ensure process capability

·  Engage directly in supplier development and ongoing quality assurance activity

·  Lead turbocharger component development efforts by identifying design and validation requirements based on higher level system and customer requirements

·  Work with the larger team to execute validation plans to deliver fully validated products

·  Facilitate cross-functional communication related to component designs within the various business organizations including engineering, manufacturing, quality and supply chain

Desired Characteristics

·  Demonstrated understanding and experience related to typical design and validation processes such as FMEA and tollgate-style design review

·  Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially PowerPoint and Excel

·  Confident ability to present technical details to an audience of peers and expert reviewers

·  Ability to work constructively in a fast-paced, team environment and accommodate shifting priorities

·  Familiarity with PPAP or similar quality-based engineering validation processes

·  Experience evaluating non-conforming material in a manufacturing environment and defining and implementing rework/repair processes

·  Willingness to develop understanding of critical to quality characteristics for a variety of mechanical components and provide design integrity influence in supplier development and internal production interactions

·  Understanding of various manufacturing processes, including a familiarity with machine operation and capability, and the demands of engineering support for a production environment

·  Understanding of typical properties and specifications for common metals

·  Experience with diesel engine performance as related to applications including locomotive, marine and/or stationary power generation.

·  Knowledge of mechanical design, typical analytical approaches and assembly considerations

·  Demonstrated understanding of design considerations affecting component supplier quality, manufacturability, and field service

·  Experience with reliability analysis (Weibull, etc.)

·  Strong written and verbal communication skills

·  Team player with a global perspective

·  Six Sigma Green Belt (GE employees only)

·  Demonstrated ability to drive projects to completion

·  Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

·  Ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and external contacts

·  Minimum of 1 year of professional experience related to the design, validation, production, application or field service of mechanical components or systems
