We are looking for a Thesis Worker or intern to join the GE Vernova Grid Solutions, FACTS Unit, based in Tampere. As a Thesis worker or intern you will join the New Product Introduction (NPI) Team. The internship period is full-time and lasts approx. 9 months. The preferable starting date would be as soon as possible. In case of thesis work, the topic is related to investigating the usage of new Ethernet technologies such as Time Synchronous Network (TSN), EtherCAT G, etc for future grid solutions as well as leveraging AI and cloud in Grid solutions.

The ideal candidate's studies are required as B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering (E.E.), Computer Science, Electronics Engineering or related fields. Preferred completion degree 80% or more of studies done. Major e.g. in Communications Engineering, Network engineering, Embedded systems - or equivalent knowledge or experience.
 

Essential Responsibilities:

·  Conduct research on Ethernet technologies in grid solutions.
·  Implement and optimize time synchronization, latency management, and reliable communication.
·  Investigate the integration of sampled values, PTP synchronization and merging units in grid networks.
·  Investigate Cybersecurity compliance and network security for grid solutions.
·  Prepare detailed reports and present findings to stakeholders.

Qualifications/Requirements:
Preferred skills/experience/areas of interest (the list is quite comprehensive, but it's not necessary to be a master in all areas).

·  Strong understanding of Ethernet protocols and networking principles.
·  Ethernet switches configurations, latencies and functions.
·  Knowledge of Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN), PTP, EtherCAT G standards and features.
·  Knowledge of embedded software and systems. Experience with Linux and Yocto is a plus.
·  Software programming skills are highly valued.
·  Knowledge of grid solutions, including smart grids and microgrids is a plus. 
·  Experience with AI and cloud development.
