Essential Responsibilities
As a Technical Writer in a healthcare-related software development business, you will be responsible for working independently on components of a documentation project. You will contribute to the team on varied documentation projects and call upon team members for guidance as needed. You will contribute to the team and work independently.
In this role, you will:
· Efficiently document processes, installations, etc.
· Be skilled in the process of breaking down software processes and effectively communicating the breakdown in writing or visual media (video).
· Actively participate in Scrum stand-up meetings, planning, and review meetings on a regular cadence, with global teams
· Estimate the relative size of a task
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Software Engineering, Quality Assurance, Design, Project Management, and Marketing to produce high-quality and accurate customer documentation
· Follow the principles of Minimalist Documentation to create concise customer-facing technical content such as Online Help, User Guides, Installation Guides, Administrator Guides, Release Notes and Whitepapers for one or more software products, as well as internal process documentation for a software development team
· Independently deliver content for software releases
· Develop topic-based single-source DITA XML documentation using Oxygen XML Editor and Astoria CCMS
· Participate in process of converting legacy documentation to DITA XML as applicable
· Test the user interface for consistency, simplified workflow, and internationalization
· Validate, test, review, and edit new and existing customer documentation for quality
· Track and manage project efforts using team collaboration software
· Participate in active learning and knowledge sharing sessions with peers in the Technical Publications department as appropriate
Qualifications/Requirements
Basic Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Journalism or related field and 2 years’ technical writing experience OR Bachelor’s degree in unrelated field / high school diploma and 4 years’ technical writing experience.
Eligibility Requirements:
· Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job
· Occasional travel (~5%) may be required
· Must be willing to work out of an office located in Seattle, WA
Desired Characteristics
Technical Expertise:
· Strong writing skills, namely a command of grammar, syntax, diction, and the conventions and best practices of writing a variety of technical documents.
· Experience with developing visual media, including video.
· Possesses a solid understanding of the following, demonstrated through coursework or work experience:
· XML and component content management
· Principles of Minimalist Documentation
· Lean/Agile/XP software development processes
· Cloud computing
· Able to edit HTML and CSS.
