Role Summary/Purpose

Lead the Systems Engineering effort for pre-production locomotive upgrades for MPES and Baffinland. Will conduct design and analysis work, plan and conduct validation tests, coordinate design efforts, and manage tradeoffs and interfaces between subsystems. Additionally, they will be responsible for working with Supply Chain and external suppliers to verify that the desired upgrades and design changes are properly applied to each locomotive.
Essential Responsibilities

Provide overall technical coordination and systems leadership for assigned programs or projects
- Work with the subsystems to assure all designs will integrate properly when applied to the overall system
- Attend design reviews and provide input as the systems integrator
- Understand trade-offs and work with program team to help come to a consensus
- Work closely with Marketing, Proposal Leaders, and the Commercial team to ensure all requirements (customer, internal, and regulated) are evaluated and flowed down to the design teams
- Develop all necessary systems documentation for the program including requirements documents, configuration documents, systems test documents, and commissioning instructions
- Support the Supply Chain production process and Commercial Test process to ensure that each modified unit flows through quickly. Work with subsystems as issues arise to resolve them quickly.
- Manage the validation testing on each modified unit to ensure that the product is validated and meets the documented requirements
- Work with external suppliers to ensure that rotating equipment has been updated (grease, bearings, etc…) to meet the customer requirements.
- Work with the broader engineering team and the Technical Publications group to identify specific needs for Baffinland and to publish instructions for ongoing maintenance.
Qualifications/Requirements

- Bachelor's of Science in Engineering
- Minimum 2 years design experience

- Ability to understand both electrical networks as well as basic mechanical systems
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Proven leadership experience and strong interpersonal and leadership skills

- Demonstrated ability to write requirements documentation and specifications in an engineering environment
