Job Description Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a System Engineering Leader, working in the GE Vernova Monitoring & Diagnostics (M&D) business, within Grid Automation (GA).

The M&D product line provides class-leading sensing devices and systems to electrical utilities and industrial customers.

The product range spans sensing of multiple asset types and has a broad portfolio of advanced technology, which aid customers to understand and optimise the operating condition of key assets such as HV/MV power transformers and circuit breakers.

Job Description

Role Summary:

·  This role will be focused on leading the system engineering developments on M&D monitoring products.
·  The successful applicant will lead a team of system engineers and system experts to define and develop technical solutions and strategies to refine existing products and develop new products & features.
·  This role will include both technical leadership and team leadership responsibilities.

Essential Responsibilities:

·  Lead the M&D system engineering team and processes within GE Vernova Monitoring and Diagnostics technology team, working on product R&D and feature deliveries.
·  Provide technical leadership on product and feature development projects.
·  Provide team leadership, support and coaching for team members working on NPI (new product introduction) programs and SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) feature delivery programs.
·  Liaise with external and internal customers, and relevant stakeholders to understand and convey customer-focused system design requirements, including rationale and future needs.
·  Lead best practice developments for product system design and documentation including the use of applicable tools.
·  Demonstrate best practice in collaborating and building relationships with cross functional teams to deliver product and process improvements and NPI projects.
·  Lead by example on application of lean principles to daily work such as SQDC, standard work, and problem-solving techniques, with a safety-first approach.
·  Lead and collaborate in process improvement initiatives and Kaizen activities within the engineering team, including product development lifecycle processes with system design, software and QA test developments.
·  Identify and implement development and training plans on relevant system design and technical leadership skills.
·  Proactively collaborate with other functional leaders on team development, safety, improvement projects, product road-mapping and promoting the GE Vernova Way.
·  Identify and help bridge the gaps in processes and projects, seeking creative solutions to benefit GE Vernova products and the wider business.
·  Reach across diverse teams and stakeholders to ensure alignment, awareness and inclusive engagement in key design decisions.
·  Navigate complex competing priorities to meet customer and business needs.
·  Carry out additional duties as requested by the line manager.

Essential Criteria:

·  Degree in relevant engineering or scientific discipline.
 

Demonstrable experience in the following:

·  Technical leadership for product development in a relevant industrial setting.
·  Customer focused technical solutions and innovation within a relevant industrial setting.
·  Feature developments on complex electromechanical devices and sensor systems.
·  Definition and delivery of hardware, firmware, and software design requirements.
·  System and product self-diagnostics, state diagrams, schematics and documentation with use of relevant software tools.
·  Fundamentals and best practice in product development lifecycle.
·  Safety focus in an industrial setting for system design and in daily work, including laboratory and test environments.
·  Leadership of collaborative work in large & diverse teams, including remote working environments.
·  Reaching across teams, functions, and stakeholders to seek a diversity of perspectives to arrive at the best outcome.
·  Application of lean methodologies.
·  The ability to communicate clearly and concisely on technical matters, including written and oral communication.
·  Ability to effectively document and communicate design decisions, including clear record keeping and driving clarity within a wide group of stakeholders.
·  Strong influencing skills and stakeholder management.
·  Ability to identify and implement innovative and effective engineering solutions.

Desirable Criteria

·  Masters degree in a relevant engineering/scientific discipline.
·  Experience working in Agile or Scaled Agile teams.
·  Experience on technical development on dissolved gas analysis and grid monitoring products.
·  Experience as technical lead in product development.
·  Experience in people management.
·  Membership of relevant technical working group.
·  Working knowledge of current Utility technology trends, IoT, Smart Grid etc.
