The Central Europe Grid System Integration (GSI) team delivers a wide range of high voltage transmission projects, including the connection of new generation & grid stability projects, and is looking for a Power Systems Engineer to lead the conceptual design of substations , the definition of main electrical equipment parameters and lead specific electrical studies.
These projects typically include:
New high voltage transmission substations
Expansion and reinforcement of existing transmission substations and networks
On and Offshore substations to facilitate windfarm connections and other renewable technologies.
Network compensation and stability projects
Energy Storage Projects
In this role:
You will conducts electrical components integration and interfaces. All activities that span multiple electrical components and are concerned with how to integrate for maximum performance and operability
You will develop solutions, undertake or lead a range of studies to develop an optimized substation’s design consulting.
Understanding the customers’ power system requirements, regulatory constrains and standards that need to be adhered too
Engage with the Customer, as required, to articulate the Power System solution and answer questions or queries that may be raised
Work closely with the mechanical-electrical teams and ensure that the practical realization of the Power System design is an efficient and cost effective as possible.
Manage any third-party resources, engage to undertake more detailed studies, such as harmonic analysis, lighting study, noise study, required to further develop the proposed design, including the validation of the work produced.
Understand substations design criteria such as earthing calculation, arc pressure calculation.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you will have the following qualification and experience:
Ms Sc or Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Power or Electrical Engineering. (Or equivalent experience)
Experience and knowledge in electrical studies on high voltage transmission systems:
Electrical Load Flow and Equipment Sizing
Reactive Power Management
Harmonic Management
Availability Studies
Insulation Coordination
Knowledge of a power system analysis software application such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory (or equivalent) would be an advantage
Speaking German would be in advantage
Desired Characteristics
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the power transmission business and the way in which electrical power grids are operated in order to successfully transmit power while remaining stable. You will also have a working knowledge of related standards and documents, such as German Grid Code, in order to understand the design constraints that need to be adhered too.
You will be confident to discuss these complex topics with Customers and Consultants and be able to propose solutions or improvements needed to create successful concepts that can then be delivered. You will also be able to bridge the gap between the system studies and practical design realisation, and be able to provide guidance to the electrical-mechanical teams who will create the detail design.
You will be a team player, with good communication and interpersonal skills, be capable of self-management, and have a high degree of flexibility, resilience and a self-learning attitude.
