Role Summary/Purpose
GE Healthcare is seeking a Staff Visual Designer to join the Digital Platform User Experience team and help with Edison Design System patterns, usage and adoption. In this role, you will help create useful, usable, and desirable web and mobile applications that deliver healthcare to patients in moments that matter. You will influence programs to develop and maintain products based on design and user experience principles shared across the organization.
Essential Responsibilities
As a Staff UX Visual Designer you lead, consult, or manage multiple user experience projects, as well as work on highly complex projects that require in-depth knowledge across multiple specialized business domains.
· Contribute to designing and defining an award-winning visual and interaction design system, shown at EdisonDesignSystem.com and used across GE Healthcare products
· Work with interaction designers and user interface developers to design the visual aspects of product user interfaces
· Communicate designs via wireframes, prototypes, guidelines, redline specifications, presentations and discussions
· Participate in discussions relative to the future direction of design and user experience
· Participate in user experience design projects, reviews, and discussions as visual design leader
· Research and evaluate emerging design, technology, industry, and market trends and competitor patterns as part of the design process
· Take a holistic systems approach to visual design across products, components and patterns to further our principles of consistent, modern, intuitive, usable and elegant design
Qualifications/Requirements
· Bachelor’s Degree in Interaction, Graphic, or Industrial Design preferred or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)
· A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in product or service design OR Master’s degree with 5 years of experience in visual, interaction, product or service design
· Portfolio of work
· Familiarity with using, and prefably designing for design systems
· Knowledge of Sketch and Invision

· Must be willing to travel 15%.
· Must be willing to work out of an office located in Chicago, IL
Desired Characteristics
· Leverages typography, color, layout, composition and materiality to create visual interface designs that clearly and effectively express product capabilities and behaviors, as well as business and product brand values
· Creates visual design specifications and documentation that provide detailed instructions for developers regarding typography, spacing, color and other aspects of a product’s user interface
· Creates multiple variations to a single design component to explore how different treatments meet design requirements and brand/experience goals
· Explains and defends design decisions to other members of the project team including developers, product managers, marketers and other designers
· Constructively participates in critiques of own design ideas and those of others
· Designs new components to contribute to design systems and documents intended usage
· Develops visual language studies that explore multiple approaches to the overall aesthetic of a product, with regard to brand and experience values and underlying product capability and behavior
· Skilled in standard design tools (Adobe CC, OmniGraffle, Sketch), hand drawing and visual communication, familiar with time-based and interactive prototyping tools (Hype, Adobe Edge, Keynote)
· Understands the implications of digital display and technologies and for visual interface design
· Experience with user experience research methods, including ethnographic, usability, human factors, as well as more agile feedback methods
· Uses an understanding of people (users, customers, partners, colleagues, leaders) as a primary motivation for design ideas. Demonstrates the ability to extract and communicate how customer groups are thinking and feeling.
