Job Description Summary

As a Protection Systems Engineer, you will play an important role in supporting projects that help design and test power system protection tools using a Real-Time Digital Simulator (RTDS).

You will work closely with the team to provide technical support to customers both at GE's labs in Stafford and at customer sites. You will also collaborate with the research and development (R&D) team to help design and troubleshoot power protection devices.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

·  Collaborate directly with customers to understand the application of our products within their power systems and provide support to the RTDS team for product homologation on the RTDS.
·  Provide on-site support to customers, assisting with application and RTDS integration to homologate our products on their RTDS systems.
·  Work alongside Customer Support teams to address and resolve product, process, and customer-related issues.
·  Collaborate with Program and Product Management teams to develop high-level specifications.
·  Design and support protection and control solutions based on design specifications and model-based design, enabling code generation.
·  Conduct system studies and simulations using appropriate tools to validate algorithms and ensure performance.
·  Review user specifications and requirements to recommend the best solutions.
·  Analyze market trends and customer needs to propose new developments for GE Digital Energy products.
·  Offer technical consultation to cross-functional teams across the business to address and resolve manufacturing, product, application, or field issues.
·  Provide technical leadership and guidance throughout the entire New Product Introduction (NPI) design process.
·  Write technical papers and present materials at industry trade shows and conferences showcasing GE products.
·  Assist in preparing training materials and deliver training sessions when needed.
·  Provide technical guidance, direction, and training to new or experienced engineers, specialists, technicians, and co-ops as required.

Must-have requirements:

·  Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience,).
·  Good understanding of power system fundamentals, including protection schemes, fault analysis, and grid operations.
·  Experience in engineering design, product development, or project execution within the electrical utility or industrial automation sector.
·  Proficiency with engineering tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, AutoCAD, ETAP, PSCAD, or similar.
·  Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple technical tasks concurrently.

Nice-to-have requirements:

·  Master’s degree or higher in Electrical or Power Systems Engineering.•  
·  Deep knowledge of modern protection and control systems, including relay configuration, scheme testing, and substation automation, typically gained in 2 or 3 years of work experience
·  Familiarity with industry standards documentation procedures, and GE protection products.
·  Previous experience with protection relay products from GE, SEL, Siemens, ABB, or Schneider Electric.
·  Prior experience working in a multinational or cross-functional engineering environment.
·  Solid communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
