Working at our Vandalia Facilities
Our Vandalia facility is located 50 minutes north of the GE Aerospace headquarters and sits just north of the city of Dayton—known widely as the birthplace of aviation—where the Wright Brothers built the world’s first aircraft in their bicycle shop in the heart of downtown Dayton. This business boasts a rich history, in operation for over 100 years. At over 140,000 square feet, the Vandalia facility rests on 27 acres right off Interstate 75.
At GE Aerospace in Vandalia, we specialize in manufacturing and servicing world-class power generation and electrical control and distribution equipment for a variety of military and commercial customers. Vandalia is also home to a product development lab where operators and engineers work together to invent the future of flight.
Role Overview
The Production Leader manages the daily operation of the 3rd shift department that includes machinists and welders for the entire shop. This requires the management of the labor to support this department along with a variety of equipment including grinders, lathes, mills, CNC technologies and welding equipment. Due to the multifaceted nature of the department, a strong candidate must have a solid background in operations, conflict resolution, and material management as most of the deliveries of the plant pass through this area.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage hourly direct reports on 3rd shift consisting of Welders, Machinists and Build Specialists (approximately 20 associates).
- Manage of schedules between different product lines and shifts.
- Oversee and manage pay and timekeeping of hourly union team members.
- Prioritize work between different groups and customers.
- Drive continuous improvement activities for the team.
- Provide mentorship and coaching to employees and peers alike.
- Focus on tactical goals while not losing sight of strategic priorities.
- Manage labor capacity and hire as workflow and orders dictate.
- Maintain welder certifications and NADCAP audit certification.
- Develop solutions within a continuous improvement culture and team setting to achieve organizational goals.
- Engage peers and workforce to develop projects that impact the productivity of the team.
- Work cross functionally with other business leaders to manage work-in-process inventories and customer priorities while meeting or improving business metrics.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 7 years of experience in a manufacturing and/or machining environment)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing and/or machining environment
- Minimum of 3 years of experience leading people
- This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.

- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Ability to work independently
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Prior NADCAP welding certifications.
