Role Summary/Purpose
The Power Electronics Design Engineer as part of GE Energy’s Power Conversion business applies the science and systems of power conversion to help drive the electric transformation of the world’s infrastructure. Designing and delivering advanced motor, drive and control technologies that evolve today’s industrial processes for a cleaner, more productive future, we serve specialized sectors such as energy, marine, industry and all related services
Essential Responsibilities
As the Power Electronics Design Engineer, you will:
· Work with System Engineer to allocate top-level requirements
· Perform detail design activities related to power electronics
· Develop and execute subsystem validation test plans
· Develop subsystem models to support concept validation studies
· Design, selection, specification, and validation of critical power components (e.g. IGBTs, IGCTs, Diodes, capacitors, inductors, etc.)
· Provide technical clarification of designs with suppliers and manufacturing
· Work with manufacturing and sourcing to test and qualify components and assemblies for production and resolve issues as needed to maintain product quality
· Power circuit protection and coordination
· Participate in FMEA and risk assessment activities
Qualifications/Requirements
· Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or related Engineering
Desired Characteristics
· Master's Degree in Technology
· Familiarity with simulation tools, Dynamic system simulators (Saber, MATLAB) Circuit simulation (Saber, SPICE) Power electronic device modeling (Saber) and Electro-thermal modeling of power devices
· Familiarity with low & medium voltage insulation systems-partial discharge theory and testing methods
· Familiarity with NFPA 70 and 70E and Arc Flash analysis (EasyPower or SKM) and testing
· Working knowledge of wind turbine, photovoltaic, or motor drive system technologies
· Related Power Electronics experience through Internship or University class work
· Familiarity with Instrumentation and measurement of power converters
· Familiarity with power electronics, power distribution and control systems
· Demonstrated ability to meet goals and objectives
· Proven interpersonal and leadership skills
