Role Summary/Purpose

The Accelerator Technician is responsible for operating and monitoring multiple nuclear particle accelerators and conducting routine maintenance and safety procedures. The work performed by an Accelerator Technician supports the Nuclear Medicine Business (nuclear pharmacies and numerous direct hospital customers) and involves close interaction with Engineering, Health Physics and Manufacturing departments.
Essential Responsibilities

1. Startup and shutdown operations on nuclear particle accelerators on site, requiring intimate knowledge of the current operating parameters, manufacturing requirements, safety regulations and equipment setup
2. Monitor routine accelerator parameters requiring constant monitoring of the performance of the accelerator throughout each production run
3. Respond to out-of-tolerance situations
4. Prepare, setup and safely deliver radioisotope targets to the production hot cell
5. Handle various chemicals for the preparation of targets
6. Perform mechanical setup of the targets prior to bombardment
7. Stay current on training in contamination control, chemical safety and radiation exposure awareness
8. Perform routine scheduled maintenance while maintaining acceptable dose levels
9. Ensure compliance with all radiation safety procedures related to cyclotron operations, including but no limited to, monitoring, dosimetry, radiation area access control and decontamination procedures
10. May perform diagnosis and/or repair of the following:  electronic equipment, electro-pneumatic systems, high vacuum systems, deionized chilled water systems, high voltage and high power RF systems
11. Must become a Licensed User of Radioactive Material where required by law

2. Complete all planned Quality & Compliance training within the defined deadlines 
3. Identify and report any quality or compliance concerns and take immediate corrective action as required
Qualifications/Requirements

1. Specialized training in an electronics-related field plus a minimum of 6 months of experience working in a healthcare or related manufacturing environment or High School diploma/or local equivalent plus a minimum of 1 year working in a healthcare or related manufacturing environment
2. Basic knowledge of mechanical functions, soldering, assembly and troubleshooting
3. Ability to read simple electrical schematic drawings
4. Must be willing to perform shift/weekend work 
5. Must be able to lift 35 lbs or more
6. Possess a high level of communication, teamwork and strict compliance to all state/federal/local procedures and regulations due to the time-sensitive nature of the radioactive products manufactured in this highly compliant, just-in-time manufacturing environment
Desired Characteristics

1. Military Service School, Technical School, Associate's degree or specialized training plus 2 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment
2. Experience with particle accelerators or Nuclear Reactors

3. Experience working with radioactive materials
4. Experience with assembly/CAD drawings 
5. Working knowledge of PLCs and programming
