Role Summary/Purpose
In 2006, GE established the Global Patent Operation (GPO) which is now part of GE's Global Operations unit and headquartered in Norwalk, CT. The mission of the Global Patent Operation is to partner with GE businesses to develop IP strategies that will add business value and to implement the strategies through the preparation and prosecution of high quality patent applications that provide IP protection consistent with developed strategic IP plans.
Essential Responsibilities
GE has an open position for a Patent Services Intern in its Norwalk, CT operation. Through the experience as an intern in the GPO, the Patent Services Intern will have opportunities to develop the fundamental skills and knowledge required in patent paralegal practice.
The Patent Services Intern will work with attorneys and IP paraprofessionals on a variety of patent-related projects. Specifically, the Patent Services Intern will:
• Review both electronic and hard copy correspondence received from both domestic and international government agencies, GE businesses, and outside counsel to determine the content/data entry requirements
• Docket all patent related actions requiring a response by a GE attorney in GE's docketing system (PAGE)
• Enter data associated with any patent application or issued patent in PAGE
• Upload documents to GE's electronic document System (IP Libraries)
• Scan paper files and discrete paper correspondence into IP Libraries
• Interface with GE's preferred providers of patent legal services and the GE businesses as required to ensure that docketing and data entry is accomplished with the requisite precision and timeliness
• Maintain quality and integrity of data in GE's patent retention systems
• Conduct on-line database and internet research for patent data
• Assist with M&A, data validation and specialized business support in docketing, and data quality management
• Electronically filing office action responses and/or patent applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office through PAIR and EFS
• Completing in a timely manner and at a high level of quality specifically identified matters on dockets
• Drafting and transmitting engagement letters to GE's outside counsel
• Interfacing with GE's preferred providers of patent legal services globally and the GE businesses as required to ensure that filings are made by the required dates and deadlines
• Miscellaneous GE projects & initiatives related to patent matters
Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Qualifications/Requirements
Currently pursuing a degree in Administration, legal studies and/or Paralegal Certification at a college of university.
Eligibility:
• Must be able to work 30-40 hours per week on site during the academic semester and 40 hours per week on site during the summer and winter breaks
• Must be willing to work out of an office in Norwalk, CT
