Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Oil and Fuel Lab Technician who will be responsible for conducting various tests and analyses on oil and fuel samples that support production engine tests, developmental tests, and off-site customer requests. The role requires proficiency in operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, ensuring cleanliness, and adhering to ASTM standards. Lean training and a background in chemistry are essential for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory equipment including but not limited to:
- Calorimeter
- Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)
- Particle count machine
- Hydrogen analysis equipment
- Sulfur analysis equipment
- Viscometer
- Flash point tester
- Acid digestion apparatus
- Particle analysis tools
- Water analysis (Karl Fischer titration)
- Ensure the cleanliness and proper functioning of all laboratory equipment and workspaces.
- Understand and apply ASTM standards in all testing procedures.
- Analyze test results and prepare detailed reports for publication.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure timely and accurate completion of tests.
- Maintain accurate records of all tests and analyses performed.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and lean training programs.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and quality standards.
Qualifications:
- Associate's or High School Diploma / GED from an accredited school or institution.
Preferred Experience:
- Previous experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in oil and fuel analysis.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining laboratory equipment.
- Strong understanding of ASTM standards and testing procedures.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Lean training and certification is a plus.
- Experience with data analysis software.
- Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
- Knowledge of safety and quality standards in a laboratory environment.
Working Conditions:
- Laboratory environment with exposure to chemicals and testing equipment.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- May require occasional lifting of equipment or samples.
