Role Summary/Purpose
The Lead Prognostic Health Management (PHM) Engineer will be involved with: Designing, developing and testing embedded software algorithms for aircraft engine prognostics and health management (PHM) functions tailored for military propulsion applications. Requires mastery of a body of theoretical knowledge including processing of high bandwidth data. Requires developed and strong foundation of analytic skills and knowledge of relevant technologies.
Essential Responsibilities
As the Lead Prognostic Health Management (PHM) Engineer, You will demonstrate leadership and execute on the business goals, programs, and processes associated with aircraft engine PHM. Individual will generate software requirements, model / code design integrated with other systems, and robust testing for the embedded engine model and on-board analytics. As part of the Advance Software Organization, you will help develop the future of Advance Combat Engines PHM functions to align with short-term and long-term business goals, such as, GE’s Digital transformation, the Air Force Adaptive Engine Transition Program and On-Condition Based Maintenance.
In the Lead Prognostic Health Management (PHM) Engineer role, you will utilize your experience / expertise related to PHM to:
· Develop and maintain requirements and designs for components, software, systems, and communication networks
· Design, implement, and test real-time embedded software, ensuring requirements and quality specifications are met
· Participate actively in design and code reviews
· Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned project and mentoring to less experienced engineers
· Document technical data generated for assigned projects / tasks, consistent with engineering policies and procedures
· Provide timely communication to leadership on significant issues or developments
· Provide input to planning and tracking to support metrics-based continuous improvement
· Interact closely with military customers and airframers to analyze, clarify, and correct requirements and designs, driving to complete customer satisfaction
· Work closely with other engineering teams, partners, and vendors to ensure inter-operability
· Drive performance and reliability improvements
Qualifications/Requirements
· Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (Or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in Engineering)
· Minimum of 3 years of experience in an engineering position (Including experience developing PHM analytic algorithms)
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT(S):
· This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens. GE will require proof of status prior to employment
· Ability to obtain a Secret Government Clearance
Desired Characteristics
· Experience in specifying design requirements for, processing and analyzing real-time high-bandwidth data
· Experience with Digital Signal Processing (DSP) data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles
· Proficiency with real time engine embedded software development tools (e.g. DOORS, SCADE, Matlab, Simulink, NPSS) and processes for requirements & logic design, simulation and validation
· Working knowledge of programming languages such as C, assembly, Perl or Python
· Familiar with digital communication protocols such as:
· MIL-STD-1553
· AFDX
· ARINC-429
· IEEE-1394
· EADIN
· and/or CAN bus
· Knowledge of aircraft controls and digital electronic control systems
· Solid oral and written communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
· Effective problem identification and solution skills. Proven analytical and organizational ability. Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously
· Ability to influence others within a matrix organization and lead initiatives of moderate scope and impact
· Familiarity with military software qualification or with DO-178C and commercial aviation software certification
· Understanding of the software development processes with focus on CMMI and Model Based Development
