GE – Renewable Energy would like to recruit a Low Voltage Electronic / Electrical Engineer within the PT-NE Services business to be responsible for the design of the control and monitoring of High Voltage Switchgear.

You will be responsible for implementing electro-mechanical and electronic solutions for new equipment and also for retrofitting to existing equipment in the field.

Functions with some autonomy but guided by established policies or review of end results. The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.). This individual will work as part of a cross functional team, so as to ensure that projects are delivered in accordance with defined Safety, Quality, Cost and Time (SQCD) targets.

Job Summary:

  • The role of Low Voltage Electronic / Electrical Engineer, GE PT-NE Services, is an exceptional opportunity for your capabilities and enthusiasm.
  • GE PT-NE Services offers a full range of service activities on legacy and new High Voltage Switchgear products, from the supply of spare parts to full refurbishment of legacy products and from installation and commissioning support to full turn-key projects requiring new GE High Voltage switchgear in substation and Power Station environments within the UK, based at our Stafford office.
  • You will report directly to the Senior Project Management Staff Manager, collaborating with a diverse engineering and business community.

As part of this role, you will also have responsibility for the following activities:

  • Deliver projects to planned programme and costs in order to maximise profitability as a result of implementing effective engineering systems and processes.
  • Implement Local Control Cubicle designs for the control and monitoring of HV Switchgear in particular Gas Insulated Switchgear including the design of suitable test equipment.
  • Develop and implement strategic solutions to meet the customer’s future demands including switchgear retrofit control & monitoring designs.
  • Deal with switchgear electronic module technical issues both for legacy spares and new equipment.
  • Carry out low voltage testing, commissioning, investigation and fault diagnosis both in-factory and occasionally at site.
  • Assist with the provision of customer training on Control Systems at site.
  • Consult with Senior Project Management Staff Manager & Tendering Manager to use appropriate quality standards, and associated delivery methodology in order to achieve minimum level of defects to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Comply with company and regulatory health and safety requirements.
  • Create and maintain drawings for electronic, electrical and mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Create and maintain material masters and parts lists in SAP.
  • The applicant must be capable of preparing multiple view 2D drawings.
  • Developing detailed designs to specifications, standards and regulations.
  • Review engineering drawings and designs for accuracy to ensure adherence to current specifications and standards.
  • Providing technical support to colleagues and customers.
  • Liaise with suppliers and customers (including site visits).
  • Assist in other areas of the business as required.

Educational Requirements

  • Degree level or equivalent in Electrical / Electronic Engineering.
  • Role would be suitable for graduate engineers/applicants with up to demonstrated years industry experience.

Technical Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience working in a control systems/low voltage environment would be advantageous but not essential.
  • You will have good understanding of analogue electronic systems and processes and you will have the operational ability to utilise CAD, in particular AutoCAD 2018 or later, along with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Basic knowledge of commercial processes within a customer orientated service organisation essential.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent in English language. Additional languages are advantageous.
  • Ability to communicate (both written and orally) effectively and clearly with a variety of professionals in a collaborative manner.
