Role Overview
We are seeking a Customer Application / Solution Engineer to provide advanced technical and project expertise across the full project lifecycle, from pre-contract (ITO) through execution (OTR).
The role acts as a key interface between commercial, engineering, and project execution teams, ensuring that customer expectations are translated into optimized, executable, and globally consistent technical solutions.
A key aspect of the role is owning project control activities globally , driving consistency in functional specifications and ensuring alignment across global project implementation processes.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-ITO / ITO Phase (Technical & Commercial Support)
· Provide technical expertise during bid and proposal phases in collaboration with commercial teams
· Analyse customer needs and define optimized technical solutions (scope, design, cost, schedule, industrial scheme)
· Perform performance estimation, system sizing, efficiency calculations, and economic analysis
· Support bid strategies by evaluating technical feasibility, risks, and customer value
· Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and contractual requirements
· Translate customer expectations into clear technical and functional specifications
OTR Phase (Execution & Customization)
· Support product customization and implementation for specific customer requirements
· Develop detailed technical specifications and costing inputs for execution teams
· Ensure smooth transition from proposal to execution phases in collaboration with project teams
· Support delivery of engineered solutions aligned with customer expectations
Project Control & Global Consistency
· Own project control activities on a global level, ensuring consistency in execution standards
· Drive the development and alignment of functional specifications across projects
· Support the implementation of common global processes for project execution
· Monitor and support planning and execution activities to ensure project alignment with expectations
· Contribute to improving understanding of customer expectations and translating them into delivery requirements
Technical Development & Decision Support
· Develop deep expertise in the assigned technical discipline
· Apply analytical thinking to solve engineering problems within standard functional practices and procedures
· Use judgment, often with guidance, to propose solutions within defined parameters
· Collaborate across multiple internal teams to support decision-making and execution
· Provide informal guidance to junior team members when required
Role Profile
This is primarily an execution-focused role with some autonomy, operating within established engineering and project frameworks. While some judgment is required, decisions are typically made within defined procedures and with managerial guidance.
The role impacts departmental operations and is responsible for planning and execution activities, ensuring alignment between customer expectations and delivery outcomes.
Must Have
· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent technical background (or relevant experience in lieu of degree)
· Experience in Customer Application Engineering, Technical Engineering, or similar discipline
· Strong understanding of engineering systems, performance analysis, and technical evaluation
· Experience working across commercial and technical interfaces
· Ability to interpret customer requirements and translate them into technical solutions
· Strong communication and problem-solving skills
· Experience working in cross-functional and global environments
Nice To Have
· Experience in Power, Energy, Industrial, or complex engineering environments
· Exposure to bid / proposal / tendering processes (ITO)
· Understanding of project execution (OTR) lifecycle
· Experience in project control or coordination activities
· Ability to drive process consistency across global teams
· Strong organizational and planning skills
· Early leadership or mentoring capability
· Knowledge of cost estimation or economic modelling
