Job Description Summary
The STATCOM Application Engineer will play a critical role in providing expert technical support for GE Vernova FACTS. This position requires a highly technical, customer-focused, and self-motivated individual. As a key member of this world-class team, the engineer will lead the technical strategy and proposal efforts for Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) projects. The primary responsibilities include technical business development, analyzing customer system-level requirements to propose tailored technical solutions and preparing tender proposals.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
· Act as the technical lead during the pre-sales process for STATCOM and FACTS projects.
· Engage with prospective customers to understand grid support requirements and propose tailored technical solutions.
· Participate in customer meetings, workshops, and technical presentations to support sales efforts.
· Identify emerging market trends, application needs, and competitor positioning to guide solution development
· Lead technical proposal creation efforts, collaborating with the various detailed engineering teams.
· Perform site assessments for prospective STATCOM locations and adapt designs to fit within site constraints.
· Participate in technical contract negotiations with prospective customers.
· Conduct quality reviews of bid packages to maximize submittal quality.
· Mentor and coach other engineers in FACTS technologies. Build technical talent pipeline.
Desired Characteristics
· Experience with other FACTS technologies (e.g., SVC, synchronous condensers, series compensation FSC, SSSC, TCSC).
· Understanding of grid-forming controls and virtual synchronous machine algorithms.
· Participation in industry working groups (IEEE, Cigre, IEC).
· Knowledge of and experience using IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards and codes, with the ability to engineer design packages without explicit customer specifications.
· Aptitude or experience in complex system-level studies of power systems involving grid problems relevant to FACTS solutions.
· Knowledge of Real-Time Digital Simulation (RTDS) testing.
· Experience in installation, field-testing, and commissioning of HV equipment, with a commitment to safe work habits.
· Superior communication and interpersonal skills.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar field from an accredited university or college with a minimum of 5 years of related engineering experience OR Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or college with a minimum of 3 years of related engineering experience
Eligibility Requirements
Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% as required, which may include remote locations and international travel, and be willing to comply with all relevant company travel and tax policies
