Job Description

As the Lead Power Electronics Engineer you will be responsible for leading and performing Low Voltage and Medium Voltage power electronics and electrical design tasks on Drive System projects. This is a technical role and will involve working in a multi-disciplinary team of engineers to specify, design, support manufacturing & validation of megawatt-scale power electronics for Marine, Energy, and Industry applications.

In this role you will:

·  Lead the Electrical and Mechanical design process of power, control, and cooling solutions for power electronics converters to customer specs.
·  Undertake all aspects of power electronics circuits design, snubber design, gating electronics design, thermal design, electrical etc.
·  Drives system level understanding for fault level study and protection strategy.
·  Produce Schematics with EPLAN (or equivalent), for circuits.
·  Manage bills of materials (BOMs) for all assemblies, maintaining control with change management process.
·  Maintain requirements, understanding, and delivering against FMEA and lessons learned.
·  Verification, validation, testing of LV & MV power electronic systems, drives/converters/ Inverters of MW range power systems. These will include power electronic inverter full temperature heat run test, EMC, overload, abnormal testing conditions and performance evaluation and optimisation, etc.
·  Producing clear test methods and capturing and documenting the results.
·  Ensure power electronic system designs comply with the relevant health & safety, international standards, and class society rules.
·  Support attainment of on-time delivery, cost, and quality targets on projects.
·  Provide technical assistance to tendering, test and commissioning teams.
·  Liaison with customers, suppliers, and sub-contractors.

Essential qualifications:

·  Relevant academic degree or equivalent qualifications in power electronics or related area.
·  Knowledge of power electronic converter control systems design and analysis.
·  Knowledge of power electronics converter design and electrical machines control methods is desirable.
·  Semiconductor device domain knowledge (Diodes, Thyristors, IGBTs, GTOs, IGCT, MOSFETS, SiC, GaN, etc.)
·  Good semiconductor device domain knowledge and their associated gating electronics & snubber circuits design and thermal design.
·  Willing to travel within UK and overseas for short-term working.

What will make you stand out:

·  Previous experience of modelling, analysis, and simulation of power electronic converter systems, using standard industrial design tools such as: MATLAB, Simulink, PLECS, PSpice, Mathcad, CFD, etc.
·  Ability to multi-task on a variety of projects
·  Excellent communication and leadership skills
·  SAP and Teamcenter (PLM) experience.

This role invo lv es work for customers who manage critical infrastructure; based on customer requirements it will be necessary to carry out background checks and suitability assessments (UK BPSS clearance OR UK SC clearance) as part of the hiring process.
