Role Summary/Purpose

The Lead Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the design and development of key elements for Wind Generators and sub assemblies including: rotors, adaptors, frame assemblies, terminal boxes and ventilation systems, using common engineering principles and 3D CAD systems. Mechanical design experience in the field of rotating electric machines in industrial applications is essential. Experience in wound rotor induction motors or doubly-fed induction generators (DFIG) is a plus.

Essential Responsibilities

As the Lead Mechanical Design Engineer, you will:

·  Provide technical leadership during the design process and the design review process
·  Partner with the Manufacturing, Quality, Fleet Support, and other functions and businesses to ensure we design for performance, reliability, cost and manufacturing
·  Generating and maintaining Pro/E or NX models
·  Translate an electrical design into detail mechanical configurations
·  Creation of manufacturing documentation (drawings, instructions, Bill of Material) for the offered products
·  Standardization and modulization of parts and components
·  Technical clarification of technical specification requirements
·  Development of design practice, design tools and work instructions for the products
·  Release and approval of manufacturing documentation
·  Form relations with current and potential suppliers to support design activities
·  Assessment, release and approval of manufacturing- or supplier claims, deviations or errors
·  Prepare customer documentation
·  Participate in RCA’s as technical resource to assess and support service issues
·  Working with application team to provide technical support of sales
Qualifications/Requirements

·  Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
·  Minimum 3 years proven electrical machine technology experience
Desired Characteristics

·  Deep expertise, knowledge and experience in design of in wound rotor AC machines mechanical components
·  Experience in structural, rotor dynamics and modal analysis techniques
·  Drafting, use of CAD software, NX, Pro/E is an advantage, 3D modelling
·  Use of FE tools, ANSYS Workbench
·  Experience with technical drawings, documentation and BOM structure
·  Experience with design for six-sigma, design for reliability, design for manufacturability and design to cost
·  Strong presentation, communication and negotiation skills
·  Demonstrated ability to work horizontally across teams
·  Advanced degree
