Job Description Summary
The Lead Engineer in Thermal Systems Design is responsible for owning projects of moderate complexity and delivering the thermal characterization of hardware and management of Secondary Air Systems (SAS) of large military engines. The Lead Engineer contributes as an individual contributor and demonstrates leadership in leading a small team with accountability of modules or components and communicating business goals / programs / processes by collaborating with other engineering functional groups. Has the experience or expertise to solve problems. Able to advance product or technology execution and process development while executing challenging technical issues.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
· Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles in the thermal systems design arena and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.
· Develop action plans to anticipate and respond to thermal system design challenges to meet internal design practice requirements as well as external customer requirements.
· Prepare and present accurate technical data to internal and external customers.
· Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrated with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market.
· Uses some judgment and has some ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles. Uses technical experience and analytical thinking. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions.
· Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with low risks and resource requirements. Explains information, developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field. Conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university.
· A minimum of 3 years of experience in an Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering position related to Secondary Air Systems (SAS) of gas turbine engines: Whole Engine Modeling (WEM) and individual Module or Components of high-pressure or low-pressure turbines.
· Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
· Due to the nature of the duties of this position, this role requires the individual to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. citizenship
