Role Summary/Purpose

The role of the Lead Engineer – Arrangement & Piping is as follows:
• Compliance with the Quality and EHS rules from the project, business, within the own area of responsibility
• Execution of all piping and plant design activities on assigned project and proposals
• Ensure a coordinate approach in all areas with the other Engineering Activities
• Ensure leadership and motivation by establishing an open and broad communication of the principles, objectives and targets of the project
Essential Responsibilities

The Lead Engineer Arrangement & Piping has the technical, cost and schedule responsibility for the own engineering scope of supply and/or services from the Project take-over from tendering team until hand-over to construction group and O&M organization.
• Represent his engineering scope of supply and services in the project-team and in technical meetings towards the customer;
• Manage the team in charge of the engineering scope of supply and/or services assigned to him;
• Take-over project from the offer-team, review/comment on the actual project documentation: Scope of supply and Division of Work, Cost-calculation incl. supplier offers for tendering purposes, Technical and commercial contract documentation as appropriate for his work and his team risk review;
• Ensure that the design of his Engineering function is according to the applicable rules, regulations codes and standards and according to good engineering practice especially with regard to Environmental aspects and Health & Safety of Site Personal, Operators, Maintenance personnel and third parties
• Support the local engineering managers in identifying the need for Training of the Local Engineers for the efficient and effective application of Engineering Methods;
• Engineering Methods in the context of this document means: Calculation and design methods, flow if information, information interface management, rules and tools for the own activity including a good understanding over the fences!
• Attend kick off meeting and keep the assigned engineers informed;
• Ensure the follow-up of the engineering progress processes and the corresponding work instructions;
• Coordinate with the PEM and other projects LE the information workflow and mitigate in case of problems
• Participate Design Reviews and the Design Freeze meetings and ensure that corrective actions defined by the Design Reviews are closed on time
• Ensure pro-active follow-up input management to track and trace documents and material from the document management, expediting and EPC-system
• Coordination of engineering subcontractors
• Support in claim negotiations and preparation of relevant documentation and facts
• Support the site and ensure processing of NCR’s
• Take care and co-ordinate of “As-Built” documentation
• Hand-over of the Engineering Activity Scope including final documentation and archived (done by seller document control) in Plant PDM (Project Technical Documentation Management System) to Customer Service
• Technical assistance on site for construction and start up
• Close-out punch items to obtain PAC and FAC
• Ensure experience feedback from the project to the Lessons Learned System
• Direct and co-ordinate a Piping / Plant Design Project-teams in various stages (Studies, Basic Engineering, Detail Engineering and Construction) with regard to quality, schedule and cost
• Defines and specify the project requirements to his team concerning Specifications, Design guidelines, Plot planning, Design and Requisitioning
• Responsible for the PDMS Design model incl. interaction with other disciplines like I&C, P&ID and Mechanical interacts with Civil and Structural Steel Department
• Defines and supervises any kind of interfaces with all Design Disciplines
• Responsible to adhere to any contractual requirement with special regards to Codes, Standards, Client Specifications
• Support Cost Estimates and Cost Control – works together with scheduling for progress measurement
• Finds and defines contractual deviations, reports consequences and initiate counter measures on own initiative
• Finds and defines deviations (in terms of Mhrs and Schedule impact) coming from other disciplines and communicates them to the PEM/PM for further handling;
• Guides and Leads any Piping related Design Sub Contractors
• Takes care on piping related site queries
Qualifications/Requirements

• Bachelor of Engineering, preferably in Mechanical Engineering
• At least 10 - 12 years of engineering experience in Power Plants Industry in total thereof 2 -3 years in the role as Piping Engineer;
• Worked an important role on min. two projects from start to end and min. 1-year site experience;
• Good skills in the use of computer applications and computer tools;
• Is fluent in English (written and spoken) and able to lead negotiations in English;
• Has a good knowledge of Engineering and Project Management tools and methods;
• Specific Knowledge about the relevant international codes and standards DGRL, AD-2000, DIN/EN, ASME, API, NFPA;
• Have good skills to lead, to motivate and persuade his team members;
• Has shown the ability to plan, organize and co-ordinate well, to delegate and supervise accordingly;
• Communicates well, enjoys personal contact;

• Steadiness in performance, the ability to stand up well under stress, ability to stand his ground, self-motivation, learning capability, openness to innovations, flexibility, self-criticism
