Role Summary/Purpose

The Lead Design Engineer will be a part of the Hub Subsystem Team in the Wind Engineering Organization. The role offers design, analysis, supplier qualification, testing and hardware ownership opportunity focusing on component design within the hub subsystem.

Essential Responsibilities

As the Lead Design Engineer, you will:

·  Lead projects pertaining to new products, technology, processes and/or field issues with a heavy focus on quality, and reliability
·  Help to coordinate digital transition to wind turbine component design  
·  Perform design & analysis of components within area of expertise such as brackets, access ladders, hatch covers, safety tie offs, shipping fixtures, bolted joints, hub castings, bearings or pitch gearbox, including detailed documentation
·  Collaborate with cross functional teams for managing the product life cycle including drawings, BoM, specifications check, cost reduction including supplier collaboration and qualification which may also include travel as required
·  Execute tasks within a cross-functional teams, including but not limited to other sub-system engineers, quality, manufacturing, sourcing, planning, field support and other
·  Utilize hand calculations, FEA and field data to optimize designs against acceptance criteria and determine root cause of Field Issues
·  Communicate clearly to design team leaders, effectively documenting and presenting results
·  Work with external agency for obtaining required component certifications
·  Support improved analysis methods for components to enhance robustness of designs
·  Create certification documents for components
·  Improve design practice rules and documentation for continuous improvement of the Hub Subsystem team
·  Work to develop and execute the necessary tests to validate and prove robustness of component designs
Qualifications/Requirements

·  Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
·  Minimum of 4 years of general component design experience  
·  Minimum 2 years of experience with mechanical component design
Desired Characteristics

·  Experience in analytical tool development, validation and implementation
·  Knowledge on component design practices  
·  Hands on experience with Wind turbine component design  
·  Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
·  Wind Turbine system design, analysis and development experience
·  Demonstrated strong mechanical design fundamentals
·  Experience with design, analysis, validation of wind turbine mechanical components
·  Experience on power generation products
·  Exposure to Product Life Cycle Management processes & tools, hardware ownership
·  Experience with Ansys and NX design software
