The Fellow Intern role in the Ceramics and Composites organization is designed to support technology development in the areas of advanced coatings and processes that are required to embed and integrate sensors into structures such as metals and composites. The Intern will participate in developing processes for embedding and quantifying sensor placement and durability into structures that will then be utilized to investigate fatigue.
Responsibilities:

Collaborate with GE Aerospace Research colleagues to identify and resolve technical challenges to determine high temperature mechanical properties of sensor embedded parts

Collaborate with the GE Aerospace Research mechanical test laboratory to assist in carrying out detailed investigations of mechanical property debits
·
Deliver effective presentations, reports and publications to engineering staff, GE Aerospace and DARPA Program Managers
Required Qualifications
·
Current enrolment in a full-time Ph.D. degree program in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or related disciplines at an ABET accredited university.
·
Permanent legal authorization to work in the US is required. This role is restricted to U.S. persons. GE Aerospace will require proof of status prior to employment.

Willingness to work at the GE Aerospace Research site in Niskayuna, NY.
·
Minimum GPA 3.0 / 4.0 scale.
Desired Qualifications
·
In-depth knowledge of mechanical design and analysis methods related to sensor embedment
·
Experience in experimental characterization techniques such as SEM, EDX, temperature and stress measurements.
·
Domain knowledge additive manufacturing technologies such as laser powder bed fusion
·
Experience using packages such as ANSYS Structural and COMSOL along with expertise in CAD
·
Familiarity with high temperature experimental techniques, data acquisition systems, digital image correlation of high value complex mechanical structures
·
Strong analytical skills
·
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
·
Excellent interpersonal skills.
The pay range for this position is $1,000-$2,000 USD weekly. The specific weekly rate offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. GE provides travel reimbursement and house stipend for qualified interns.
