Role Summary/Purpose

The Lead Transformer Service Specialist will provide technical and hands-on support to provide site support and resolve customers' transformer problems. The person will have a high level of technical and mechanical expertise and be capable of planning and executing jobs for self and a site team, have a great customer reputation and an entrepreneurial spirit.

Essential Responsibilities

This fast-paced role requires strong hands-on transformer service technical and mechanical skills and knowledge combined with business acumen and highly effective communication and leadership skills to:
• Test, commission, troubleshoot, repair, erect, upgrade and vacuum-fill various sizes and types of transformers up to 900MVA and lead a site team to do the same
• Operate a vacuum oil processing unit
• Review oil analyses and transformer test results to provide recommendations for remediation and execute the same
• Familiarity with the following is an asset: a) Load tap changers, b) test, commission, program, troubleshoot, repair, upgrade, retrofit and install high and low voltage power system equipment
• Perform site surveys / site walks / site service
• Develop service work scopes and estimates and provide proposals to customers
• Schedule and execute jobs on-time and on-budget with world-class quality
• Plan, coordinate, lead and direct activities for self and support team to maximize productivity and profitability
• Provide technical expertise and present GE capabilities to customers to win orders
• Identify and implement cost and process improvements and standardization to continuously improve variable cost productivity
• Prepare and verify reports and deliver to customer
• Prepare and finalize job details for invoicing
• Perform administrative functions, such as: writing technical reports, ordering materials, securing quotations, filing/archiving data and documents
• Coach other GE personnel to impart and perpetuate knowledge and expertise to develop technical and managerial skills and techniques

Desired profile

Qualifications/Requirements

• 7+ years' proven track record providing the services described above
• Familiarity with environmental protection procedures and basic electrical safety practices
• Make a work site and site activities safe for self and all other members of the site team
• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on capability
• Ability to understand documented instructions, procedures and electrical drawings, and develop the same
• Well organized
• Familiar with test equipment and testing procedures for power delivery including: a) TTR, Doble, Hi-pot, Megger, Sweep Frequency Analyzer, Winding Resistance, b) Familiarity with IR Scanner, Power System Analyzer, Relay tester is an asset
• Computer literate
• Excellent English written and oral skills
• Ability to travel locally and nationally, work overtime/weekends and respond to weekend and off-hours service requests as required
• Engineer or Technician or Certified Electrical Technician/Technologist or Journeyman Electrician, with proven experience
