Role Summary/Purpose

Train Control is a dynamic subsystem that is on the cutting edge of technology in the Transportation Industry, supporting the design of a diverse set of critical functions on the locomotive from air brake to human machine interface. In this role the engineer will be integral to the development of the next generation control system, work closely with our customers, various suppliers, engineering functions and/or industry agencies to identify and capture requirements and execute the design.
Essential Responsibilities

Train Control is made up of over a dozen sub-systems and components. The Train Control Team is also the system integrator for various customers supplied or specified equipment onto the locomotive. The engineer will utilize experience and expertise to shape architecture, solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and effect short-term and some long-term business goals. 

·  Technical leadership of controls development of locomotive train controls systems, from requirements development to creating and overseeing model development, testing and validating new designs on locomotive and in the simulation lab. 
·  Provide design oversight for a variety of projects from Requisition Design through NPI developments, ensuring proper definition of requirements and interfaces for Train Control systems 
·  Design, integrate, implement and validate Train Control subsystem functions, Human Machine Interface for locomotive, suitable for application in both English and non-English speaking environments 
·  Guarantee projects are executed using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements 
·  Lead/provide oversight for investigation, root-cause identification, and resolution of reliability issues. 
·  Present to customers and suppliers and lead technical efforts to develop upgraded Train Control technologies for the railroad industry. 
·  Support proposal development including providing technical guidance for Train Control System development at the earliest phases of the design process 
·  Ensure that the documentation of technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures 
·  Become the program representative for Train Control on significant NPI programs, managing schedule, outward communication of successes and failures, as well as providing technical oversight to a team of engineers 
·  Mentor engineers through design process and coach them through complex designs, helping identify strategic technical development and education for the team 
·  Drive integration across the Controls engineering teams, identifying and combining talent and skills for customer support and better product development
Qualifications/Requirements

·  Bachelor of Science in Engineering 
·  At least 5 years of experience in an engineering position
·  Demonstrated leadership on multiple design projects both NPI and Requisition 
·  At least 3 years experience working on transportation/locomotive systems, control, diagnostics, design and test 
·  Ability and willingness to work "hands-on" in test labs and on locomotives with high HP (1000 KVA), medium voltage (2 KV) and high current (10 KA) systems
Desired Characteristics

·  Masters in Engineering 
·  At least 3 years of experience working with Train Control systems 
·  At least 3 years of experience in model development using tools like Simulink 
·  At least 3 years of Experience with developing serial and/or Ethernet communication protocols (Requirement Generation, Validation Testing) 
·  Proven ability to develop and oversee Simulink Control Models 
·  Experience leading technical discussions with suppliers and customers 
·  Experience with system and component level validation testing 
·  Experience with Human Machine Interface and human factors analysis for embedded systems 
·  Experience with Design For Six Sigma (DFSS) tools (i.e. FMEA, Score Cards) 
·  Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems 
·  Solid oral and written communication skills 
·  Strong interpersonal and leadership skills 
·  PC proficiency
