Role Summary/Purpose
Based at Bishops Cleeve site, provide an authoring service & be the prime interface between the supplier and GEAS on all matters regarding the production of on-aircraft and repair shop Service Bulletins (SBs) covering the range of GEAS products both civil and military manufactured in the U.K. As demand for SBs fluctuates, the function requires that the SB author is able to assist the technical publications team with peaks of workload.
Essential Responsibilities
The ELMS Technical Author will demonstrate leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for an area or business segment. In this role you will utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals.
• Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned project
• Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures
• Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
• Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues
• Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
• Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
Key Responsibilities:
• S.B. Development
- Produce SBs and Service Sheets from source engineering data and with close direction and mark-ups from the engineering team.
- Liaise with GE Technical Publications team and engineering staff to ensure SB requirements are accurately captured and covered in SB output.
- Proactively progress draft SBs through both the internal and external approval loop, including Type Certificate holder approval when required.
• Authoring
- Produce SBs and Service Sheets.
- Author revisions to component maintenance manuals where time critical and as SB demand allows.
- Perform editing function where time critical and as SB demands allow.
- Create outsource job packs for other publication revisions/creation as SB demand allows.

Qualifications/Requirements
Key Skills & Competencies:
• Ability to understand and interpret, change notes, mod history information, engineering drawings etc.
• Understanding of current industry standards relating to Technical Publications, e.g. ASD-STE100, iSpec2200, S1000D, DAVP70, Airbus CDIM, Boeing D6-54487 etc.
• Ability to understand engineering drawings and clearly communicate requirements
• Proficient PC skills, with excellent knowledge of document production software Adobe FrameMaker and MS Word. Epic/Arbortext knowledge useful but not essential.
• Product and aircraft knowledge with previous experience in aerospace industry necessary
• Ability to work on own initiative.
• Occasional requirement to work evenings or weekends, to produce/update aircraft level Service Bulletins which are critical/AOG
