Role Summary / Purpose

·  The  EHS Engineer  provides day-to-day  environmental, health, and safety (EHS) support  at a manufacturing site or fixed facility (such as a service shop or O&M site).
·  Drives implementation of EHS programs to support  Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost  objectives.
·  Ensures  regulatory compliance  and alignment with company requirements, while partnering with operations to  identify and reduce risk  and strengthen safety culture.
·  Uses  technical EHS expertise, analytical thinking, and strong collaboration skills  to execute site-level EHS strategies and continuous improvement initiatives.

Roles and Responsibilities

Individuals in this role, located at manufacturing sites and fixed facilities, are responsible for:

EHS Program Execution and Compliance

·  Implement and maintain EHS programs  to meet federal, state, and local regulations and company policies, standards, and procedures.
·  Support regulatory compliance activities , including inspections, audits, permits, and required reporting (e.g., OSHA, EPA, local environmental authorities).
·  Conduct and/or support risk assessments , including Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), and ergonomic assessments.
·  Track and drive closure of corrective and preventive actions  identified from inspections, audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
·  Perform incident investigations , including root cause analysis, documentation, and implementation/verification of corrective actions.
·  Support management of change (MOC)  processes to ensure EHS risks are evaluated and controlled before new processes, equipment, or materials are introduced.

Technical Expertise and Analytical Support

·  Apply  in-depth knowledge of EHS technical disciplines  (occupational safety, industrial hygiene, process safety, environmental compliance) to identify hazards and recommend controls.
·  Use  data-driven analysis  to monitor EHS performance metrics, identify trends, and recommend improvement actions.
·  Develop, review, and update EHS procedures, work instructions, and standard work  to ensure regulatory compliance and support operational excellence.
·  Evaluate  new processes, equipment, chemicals, and facility changes  for EHS risks and recommend appropriate engineering controls, administrative controls, PPE, and monitoring strategies.

Collaboration, Integration, and Business Support

·  Partner with operations, maintenance, quality, engineering, and HR  to integrate EHS requirements into daily work and projects.
·  Maintain  knowledge of EHS best practices  and understand how EHS integrates with other business functions and competitive benchmarks.
·  Provide  EHS input to capital projects, new product introductions, and process or layout changes  to ensure safe and compliant design and operation.
·  Exercise  sound judgment  to propose solutions outside of set parameters when addressing complex manufacturing processes with technical variety and interdependent production cycles.

Training, Culture, and Employee Engagement

·  Develop and deliver EHS training  (e.g., hazard communication, lockout/tagout, confined space, PPE, ergonomics, emergency response) to employees, contractors, and visitors as needed.
·  Support and promote a  strong safety culture , including encouraging hazard and near-miss reporting and employee participation in EHS programs.
·  Serve as a  resource and mentor  to colleagues with less EHS experience, helping build EHS capability at the site.
·  Facilitate  EHS committees, safety talks, and engagement events , and support clear communication of EHS expectations, performance, and recognition.

Project Leadership and Stakeholder Management

·  Lead small to medium EHS projects  or initiatives, including risk-reduction projects, EHS improvement kaizens, and corrective action campaigns.
·  Use  strong communication and influencing skills  to gain alignment and consensus on EHS topics and priorities across cross-functional teams.
·  Set and communicate performance expectations , manage timelines and deliverables, and escalate issues when necessary.
·  Handle  sensitive issues and confidential information  with integrity and professionalism.

Required Qualifications

·  Bachelor’s degree  from an accredited university or college preferably in Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field (or a high school diploma/GED with a minimum of 4 years Manufacturing experience) +
·  Minimum of 3 years of EHS experience

Desired Qualifications / Characteristics

Technical EHS Knowledge

·  Demonstrated working knowledge of  occupational safety, industrial hygiene, and process safety management .
·  Experience conducting risk assessments, exposure evaluations, and implementing engineering and administrative controls.
· 
Professional Certifications

·  Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)  and/or  Certified Safety Professional (CSP)  strongly preferred, or demonstrated progress toward professional certification.
· 
Communication Skills

·  Strong oral and written communication skills  with the ability to explain technical EHS concepts to employees, leaders, and non-EHS stakeholders.
·  Comfortable  presenting, training, and facilitating  groups.
· 
Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills

·  Demonstrated ability to  analyze and resolve problems , perform root cause analysis, and drive timely closure of corrective actions.
·  Uses  data and metrics  to prioritize risks and recommend solutions.
· 
Project and Program Management

·  Established  project management skills , including planning, organizing, tracking milestones, and delivering results on time.
·  Ability to  document, plan, promote, and execute EHS programs  and initiatives.
· 
Collaboration and Influence

·  Proven ability to  work effectively in cross-functional teams , influence without direct authority, and build strong relationships with operations, engineering, and leadership.
· 
Tools and Systems

·  Familiarity with  EHS management systems , incident reporting and tracking tools, and basic data/analysis tools (e.g., spreadsheets, dashboards).
