Essential Responsibilities
· Set up and operate standard machine tools and specialized equipment to make, modify and rework parts and assemblies as directed.
· Will use all types of measuring and hand tools and perform related duties.
· Will work from written procedures, blueprints, sketches, and/or verbal instructions.
· Write planning as required.
· Will receive work assignments throughout the machine shop and will operate various machine tools.
· Will perform repetitive and/or single piece lot work.
· Must be able to assist and be directed by higher rated machinist and/or toolmaker in the manufacture of a variety of machine components and assemblies, and to develop/implement new processes.
· Machinists own the repair process from start to finish, so they must be willing to bench, inspect, steam/clean, grit blast, etc. to keep hardware moving.
· Maintain associated paperwork.
· May be called upon to disposition hardware, maintain/change routers, quote, and write DR’s.
· Instruct others as required and perform related duties.
Qualifications/Requirements
• A high school diploma or GED
• 2 years minimum within a structured training program (such as an apprentice program) with additional work experiences of 3 years (i.e. VTL, VBM, Lathe, Bridgeport, Mills, Drills, Grinders, etc.) OR 5 years work experiences as a skilled machinist (i.e. VTL, VBM, Lathe, Bridgeport, Mills, Drills, Grinders, etc.) before you would be considered an experienced machinist
• Previous experience in the set-up and operation of standard machine tools
• Experience operating various hand and power tools and basic machine tools and equipment
• Experience using shop math, including fraction and decimals, with working knowledge in algebra, geometry and trigonometry
• Demonstrated skill in the use of precision measuring instruments with experience inspecting machined hardware
• Experience in reading and interpreting technical documents, drawings and standards
• Knowledge of cutting tool capabilities and applications for both CNC and manual machining processes
• Knowledge of fixture design and functionality
• Knowledge of safety standards and safe guards
• Ability to monitor multiple machines at the same time
• Pass machinist written and functional test
Desired Characteristics
• Apprentice graduate OR 10 years or more machinist experience
• Experience with C.N.C. or N.C. equipment
• Experience in using CMM equipment
• Experience in operating material handling and lifting devices, including ability to obtain a forklift license as required
• Experience in preventative maintenance and assisting in machine repairs
• Experience in working computers, applications, and keyboarding
