We're seeking a talented AVR & Cabling Specialist to join our Power Systems Engineering team. You'll be the go-to expert for designing and supporting Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) systems and complex Cabling solutions across demanding applications in Defence, Marine, Energy, and Industrial sectors.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

AVR systems: Analysing customer requirements, creating detailed designs, developing work packages and test procedures, and providing configurations for AVRs. All this according to GE Power Conversion and customers’ safety and quality standards. Providing expertise on:

  • Developing AVR solutions for brushless (rotating exciter) and brushed rotating machines.

  • Configure AVR’s for all typical operation modes.

  • SCR or IGBT based AVR solutions.

  • Load Sharing methods between multiple AVRs in parallel operation.

Cabling systems: Calculate cable CSA based of ampacity, short circuit, and environmental considerations. Provide detailed cable definitions for projects and support projects by creating interconnection diagrams to be reviewed as part of the business design review process.

Additional responsibilities

  • Provide electrical technical support to customers, and field service activities.

  • Reverse engineering of legacy generator AVR designs.

  • Being creative to develop and maintain standard/modular designs within the company to lower the operational, spares and support costs for GE-PC and customers.

  • Develop the company standards for Cabling and Earthing Guidelines.

  • Provide technical ownership to projects, support colleagues and peers in developing safe, technically compliant, and cost-effective AVR and Cabling solutions at equipment and holistic Power System level.

  • Support attainment of on-time delivery, cost, and quality targets on projects with utmost focus on safety.

Essential Requirements

  • Must be a British Citizen in order to support sensitive defence projects.

  • Working towards or hold a CEng qualification (or strong interest).

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant subject, or relevant industrial experience.

  • Willing to travel within UK and overseas for short-term working.
