Retail Apprentices - Greggs - Farnborough
Salary: £5.86 to £7.57 per Hour
This role requires you to complete a 12 month programme designed to offer you a career pathway to our junior management positions. The Apprenticeship Programme offers both Level 2 and Level 3 positions, successful candidates will be allocated to Level 2 or Level 3 positions following Assessment Days.
All of our successful candidates will be part of our Retail Shop Teams, with an allocated Training Shop Manager to support you through this learning journey.
During your first twelve weeks of the programme you will start your diploma and our internal development programme which will support you in becoming a great Team Member.
Key responsibilities within this role include:
- preparing our much loved products to the highest standards
- serving our customers in a friendly, professional and efficient way
- making sure the shop is clean, tidy and attractive to visit
- and that our food is presented in the way our customers expect.
Following successful completion of this internal programme level 2 Apprentices will then put these skills into practise as you start our internal Senior Team Member development programme (this is Greggs' equivalent to a Team Leader/Shift Leader). This should take you a further 12 weeks to complete. Upon completion we will assess whether you are ready to take on the responsibility of our Senior Team Member role. Don't worry if you are not quite ready, we will offer you support and guidance to get you there as quickly as possible.
Once you are a Senior Team Member you will put into practice all the skills you have learnt over the first 6 months of the programme, and complete your Diploma.
Some of your responsibilities within this role will be;
- Opening and closing your shop on a regular basis. There will also be times when you will cover for your Shop Manager / Supervisor during holiday periods or breaks.
- Providing clear targets and help to team members while you are covering a Manager's absence
- Placing orders that will give great product availability
- Undertaking cash handling & security of your shop duties
For Level 3 Apprentices, at around 12 weeks into the programme, you will start our Supervisor Development Programme. This will provide you with the knowledge and practical skills to be able to support a Shop Manager in the daily running of one of our shops.

- Delivering a great service experience for your customers
- Supporting a high performing team
- Together with your shop manager achieving a consistently high standards
- Assisting your shop manager to drive sales
- Making an effective contribution to profit
- Deputising for your shop manager
At around 6 months into your programme we will assess whether you are ready to make that step into a Supervisor position where you will be able to apply the learning you have undertaken so far. You will continue to complete your Level 3 Diploma and will undertake a project specific to your role for the final 6 months within your programme.
Candidates should be self-motivated with the ambition and drive to complete the required learning. This is a customer facing role which really focuses on giving you the skills to help you deliver great customer service. You'll also learn effective selling techniques and gain practical food preparation knowledge
This 12 month programme offers successful candidates the opportunity to work towards completion of a Retail Diploma Level 2 or Level 3 dependent on prior experience.

Hourly salary will rise on completion of milestones within the programme.
