Job description

Who will I work for, and what will I do?

As a Web Developer, you will sit in the Marketing team reporting to the Marketing Director and work closely with the company across Europe, forming part of an 'internal agency' based in the UK.

Your core focus will be to maintain and develop Firebrand’s website and CRM system to support business goals.

In this role, you will help with developing and improving the internally developed website that is a platform to deliver content across many EMEA countries and languages (i.e. German, Danish, Dutch, Swedish, etc.).

Day to day duties will include;

All things development on the website, CRM system and other internal systems such as Sharepoint. Minor request changes or contributing to larger projects.

You could end up working with any of the following technologies;

Core web development: Server-side scripting: Classic ASP with VBScript, HTML/CSS (Responsive with media query method) , JavaScript, JQuery library, Plugins: Tiny, Noty, JQuery Easing, AJAX using JQuery, Web Server: IIS 7, SQL Server 2008 R2, Administration using SQL Server Management Studio, GIT: version control for codebase, Admin using GIT GUI. CMS: ASPRunner 6.0, SQL Server Business Intelligence: build mailing lists or other regular data dump from web database. Other: Google Analytics, Google Webmaster Tools, Monitoring: Site 24x7, GoldMine CRM, Experiment tools: CrazyEgg (heatmap insight)

What training will I receive?

Firebrand offers a unique Higher Level 4 IT Apprenticeship scheme that provides award-winning industry training and certifications, valuable work experience and offers on-going support all with the ultimate goal of securing you a long-term career within the world of technology.

During your 24 month IT apprenticeship programme, Firebrand will provide residential training at our distraction-free training centre. Our method of accelerated training allows you to achieve industry-recognised certifications such as CompTIA, ITIL and Microsoft faster, giving you more time to put your new skills in to practice within a working environment. Firebrand will also provide you with a Mentor who will be supporting and assisting you with your development. By the end of your 24 month apprenticeship, in addition to having numerous industry recognised qualifications, a steady career with a supportive employer, you will also be recognised by the British Computer Society (BCS) for entry onto the register of IT Technicians, confirming SFIA level 3 professional competence.

What experience do I need?

We would expect you to be able to demonstrate that you can program, it does not matter which language but it needs to be more than HTML/CSS. For instance Basic, PHP or JavaScript. Showing you know how to build relatively complex applications by hand coding not only using a visual editor.

Finally, you will have:

  • At least five GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C or above including Maths, English and either IT or Science.
  • Ideally, you will have either a minimum of two A levels (or equivalent) a Level 3 Apprenticeship qualification or Level 3 BTEC

What happens after my apprenticeship?

At the end of the apprenticeship the expectation is that you would carry on as a developer working for Firebrand taking on more responsibility and ownership of more complex projects etc.
