Construction Site Manager (Rail Cantech)

Job description

Rail Cantech is looking for a Construction Site Manager for its Project Management Team that is building the Ottawa LRT Confederation Line Extension in Ottawa.

The project is located in Ottawa, and is split over two extensions of the existing Confederation Line with the East Connector adding 12.5km of double track from the existing Blair station into the suburbs of Orleans, and the West Connector adding 14.5km of double track.

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Construction Site Manager is responsible for managing multiple work fronts, coordinate processes, maintain customer relationships, and lead a team of employees within his area. As part of the leadership team for the Project, the Construction Site Manager will participate in the Project Management Team meetings and work together to achieve the strategic objectives for the project. More specifically you will have to:

• Promote the company’s safety and workplace culture and adhere to the federal, provincial and company policies and procedures.
• Ensure that all company employees, our clients, our subcontractors and the general public enjoy a safe working environment on our construction sites.
• Planning, organizing, directing, controlling and evaluating construction projects from start to finish according to schedule, specifications and budget.
• Participation in safety briefings and safety walks as part of the companies’ prevention strategy.
• Development and review of Internal Test Plans (ITP), work plans, construction methodologies as part of the companies’ continuous improvement program.
• Planning and preparing construction schedules and milestones, and monitoring progress against established schedules.
• Monitor and manage work crew performance related to project specific Key Performance Indicators (KPI).
• Perform administrative tasks such as preparation of production reports, review and approval of time sheets and inspection reports.
• Respond to emergency situations
• All other related tasks.

Desired profile

Qualifications and Skills

• Thoroughly understanding of all aspects of track construction and maintenance, including the ability to read and understand construction drawing and technical specifications.
• Minimum of 10 years of work experience in the construction of ballast track and special trackwork, including flash butt welding, thermite welding and CWR installation.
• 3-5 years experience in site management role.
• Experience in managing unionized workforce is an asset.
  Valid drivers license (G for Ontario or 5 for Quebec) and good driving record.
• Provide leadership and guidance for field management staff.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills of Microsoft Office Product suite, including online applications such as SharePoint, OneDrive and Electronic Document Management Systems (EDMS).
• Some travel away from home is required, some weekends and night work.
• Ability to speak/read/write in French language is an asset.
