The Opportunity
The Retirement Plans Investment and Operations Senior Analyst is an internal role, responsible for supporting the management of EY’s qualified and non-qualified retirement plan’s assets. ThisSenior Analystposition will report to EY’sChief Investment Officer.
As part of a small team, this role will monitor capital markets and key macro-economic trends, assist in operational aspects of the retirement plans and regulatory compliance for the firm, and evaluating and monitoring external fixed income investment managers.
As such, this role will interact and liaise with third party service providers, including investment managers, and various internal departments, including Total Rewards, Global Independence team, and Partnership Operations.
The scope of the position is US firm-wide and requires a unique mix of qualitative and quantitative skills, and specialty investment knowledge.
Your key responsibilities:
· Help monitor key macro-economic trends to determine impact on portfolio investments and provide insights to investment team for future actions/decisions.
· Assist in the management of cash flow needs of the trusts, including investing contributions to achieve desired target allocations while maintaining short-term liquidity to cover expenses and benefit payments, and preparation of the rebalancing schedule.
· Coordinate with external managers and the consultant to ensure accurate performance reporting for the qualified and non-qualified plans and updating internal database (e.g. GTT).
· Work with EY Independence to ensure all investments and third-party service providers are not proscribed and all investments are in compliance with Independence joint investing considerations. Complete the BRET process for all potential investment managers and service providers to the plans.
· Assist in monitoring investment managers, including analyzing the appropriateness of investment styles, biases and tilts versus benchmark, collecting relevant press articles, attending quarterly earnings calls on publicly traded managers. Accordingly, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to articulate investment thesis and generally ongoing performance attribution analysis on the portfolios.
· Help identify key drivers of risk and return from individual investment strategies and assist in analyzing the performance attribution of existing investments to evaluate the quality of risks-adjusted returns. (e.g., breaking down risk from allocation decisions vs manager selection)
· Help compile information and prepare presentation materials for quarterly Retirement Investment Committee meetings.
· Monitor industry best practices and trends in risk management, investment managers and plan sponsors.
Skills and attributes required for success:
· Demonstrate knowledge in finance & investments
· Ability to effectively collaborate and establish strong, effective working relationships (at all levels) with Treasury, Human Resources, EY Independence, investment managers, and other applicable third parties.
· Excellent analytical, problem solving, written and oral presentation skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
· Financial modeling skills and ability to delve deeply into the numbers to analyze and make recommendations.
· Solid grasp and understanding of the management of different asset classes
· Oriented to continuous process and productivity improvement
· Demonstrate agility, support in change efforts and adaptable to changing priorities
· Interpersonal skills needed to challenge others respectfully in investment discussions and have the demonstrated capacity to work effectively in a team environment
· Knowledge of Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) would be helpful
To qualify for the role, you much have:
· An undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, economics or related degree or equivalent years of experience is required.
· 4-6 years in finance, investments or related experience is required
· 3+ years hands-on investment management experience
Ideally you will also have:
· A Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) candidate is preferred.
· Knowledge of Bloomberg is preferred
