Job description

EY's Financial Services practice is a unique industry-focused business unit that provides a broad range of integrated services to mainstream and non-mainstream financial services firms, including retail banks, investment banks, broker-dealers, asset managers, insurance, mortgage and consumer credit businesses.

EY has a strategic objective of growing its regional consultancy business.

Given that risk and regulation features at the very top of Board agendas, a key component of this is expanding the size of its Risk & Regulatory Team in the North.

We are recruiting at a number of different levels to facilitate this.

The opportunity

EY’s regional Risk and Regulatory Team helps supports businesses in understanding their risk and regulatory compliance obligations and in designing, implementing and maintaining governance, oversight, control and conduct arrangements that are proportionate whilst being efficient, effective and value adding.

In doing this, EY’s regional Risk and Regulatory Team delivers a wide range of interesting engagements (including gap analyses, transformation, remediation, authorisation and ad-hoc advice and guidance) at a variety of different clients.

We are looking for individuals at Senior Consultant level to help shape this growing team and to:

−      Input to its strategy and direction;

−      Support with business development and develop its portfolio of clients and pipeline of work; and

−      Deliver its engagements.

This is an exciting career opportunity in a challenging and a rapidly changing environment.

Your key responsibilities

As a Senior Consultant, you will:

−      Manage smaller and lower risk engagements or manage workstreams on larger or higher risk engagements (i.e. planning, budgeting, delivery and engagement risk management);

−      Deliver our engagements to a thorough and exacting standard, as part of a wider delivery team or in isolation (depending on the size, nature and complexity of that engagement);

−      More specifically, contribute to the articulation of EY findings and recommendations (for gap analysis work) or the design, building and/or implementation of deliverables (for transformation, remediation or authorisation work);

−      Support internal projects and initiatives;

−      Support the analysis of emerging issues, the articulation of an EY point of view and the development of EY propositions;

−      Play a role in developing the strategy and direction of the regional Risk and Regulatory team and its day to day management;

−      Play a role in business development for the Regional Risk and Regulatory team, including production of proposals, the identification of opportunities within client engagements, participation in meetings with potential clients to discuss regulator hot topics and the development and maintenance of client relationships;

−      The development of a network internally, across complementary service lines and propositions;

−      Mentoring staff and conducting performance reviews; and

−      Working effectively as a team member sharing responsibility, providing support and updating senior members on progress

Our typical engagements include:

−      Design and review of corporate governance, risk management and regulatory compliance frameworks and functions;

−      Design and review of conduct processes (product sales, product value and pricing, affordability, claims, collections and complaints);

−      Design and review of the systems and controls supporting the conduct processes (recruitment, training, performance management, remuneration, QA and MI);

−      Supporting firms as they develop their operational resilience frameworks;

−      Supporting firms as they prepare for Brexit;

−      Supporting firms as they embrace Regtech; and

−      Helping firms understand their regulatory permissions and navigate the authorisation or variation of permission application processes;

−      Supporting firms as they navigate regulatory scrutiny.

These engagements may be performed at the firm’s own request but may also be performed at firms under direct FCA scrutiny (including s166 (Skilled Person) and shadow s166 reviews).

To qualify for the role, you must have

−      Energy and enthusiasm;

−      Positive and flexible attitude to work and a willingness to embrace new initiatives;

−      Typically, 3+ years of Consumer Credit, Mortgage, General Insurance or Life Insurance risk and regulatory experience at other consultancies, within industry or at the FCA;

−      Up to date knowledge of the UK financial services regulatory framework and the regulator’s key areas of focus;

−      Up to date knowledge of the key FCA sourcebooks (SYSC, CONC. MCOBS, ICOBS, COBS and DISP) and how these are applied in practice;

−      Business consulting experience, i.e. developing relationships, establishing rapport, building networks and good communication and influencing skills;

−      Experience of issue identification and problem solving;

−      Project management experience, ideally relating to risk and regulatory projects;

−      Strong written and verbal communication skills for report writing and client presentations;

−      An ability to travel, across the North and the wider regions (though we promote flexible working and arrangements that serve the best interests of our people and clients).

−      Strong academic background at least a 2:1 within a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a business, legal, actuarial or finance related degree desirable but not essential; and

−      Industry recognised qualifications (e.g. ACA, CISI, FPC, IMC, CFA etc.) desirable but not essential.
