Skills and attributes for success:

Employment law

•    Advising clients on a broad range of employment related matters including but not limited to: hiring, employee compensation and benefits, discipline, terminations, severance packages and approach to terminations, reductions in work force and developing strategies for managing risk around employment matters
•    Drafting employment and secondment contracts, termination letters, employment policies & procedures and other employment related documents
•    Handling employment law related aspects of mergers and acquisitions including due diligence reviews, drafting of employment related provisions of letters of intent and purchase agreements
•    Preparing and conducting employment law training programs for human resources professionals and management, managing Company training programs in conjunction with HR
•    Assisting clients to ensure their businesses are compliant with employment laws and regulations
•    Advising on start-up operations including processes, policies and procedures
•    Collaborating with various EY practices including our People Advisory Services practice and our Global Network for employment law related work
•    Business development

Corporate law

•    Drafting, reviewing and analyzing corporate commercial contracts, including but not limited to service agreements, joint operating agreements, participating agreements and other agreements necessary to conduct operations
•    Advising and participating in the review of legal corporate commercial matters including contract disputes, operating agreements, corporate reorganizations, acquisitions and divestitures including due diligence
•    Collaborating with various EY practices including our People Advisory Services practice and our Global Network for corporate law related work
•    Reviewing new business relationships with vendors and subcontractors
•    Business development

To qualify for the role you must have:

•    3-5 years’ experience as an Employment Lawyer in private practice or in-house
•    Experience dealing with employment law issues across Canada
•    Corporate Law experience/knowledge
•    Called to the bar in Ontario; member of Quebec Bar is an asset
•    Ability to work in French, while not critical, would be an asset
•    Knowledge of Immigration Law is an asset
•    Good judgment, an ability to think critically, strong interpersonal skills and strong drafting skills
•    Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•    Able to manage caseload independently
•    Ability to develop innovative and practical approach to legal issues in support of strategic business goals

What we look for

We are looking for candidates who are highly motivated, analytical, logical thinkers with a passion for being a strategic advisor in the infrastructure space; and have a very strong attention to detail. This position will also require strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills, superior analytical skills, and proven project and people management skills.  Bringing a “roll up the sleeves” attitude with high levels of creativity, enthusiasm and team-work.is critical in this role.
