Within the professional services environment, appropriate legal advice and risk management are fundamental to the successful delivery of our client services and promotion and protection of our brand. Within EY, the legal team: General Counsel Office (GCO) works closely with the Risk Management group and together they are responsible for the promotion, protection and support of risk management within the business. They aim to uphold our business standards, maintain and enhance the value of the brand, and ensure that the firm complies with the rules and regulations imposed on us in relation to the conduct of our business.

Indonesian GCO plays important and critical role in helping the firms meets its strategic objectives and protect their interests. Indonesian GCO is also part of a global Legal function (ASEAN General Counsel Office) and work closely with General Counsel Offices of Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Oceania.

The Role

The work within the Indonesian GCO is varied and covers all legal issues arising from the running of a professional services business, including litigation, intellectual property, general commercial, tortious and contractual matters. Much of the legal work is at the cutting edge of business practice as the firm constantly finds innovative ways to help our clients’ businesses.

The Legal Counsel role includes, under the direction and supervision of General Counsel:

· 
Commercial: advising, drafting and negotiating client matters including contracts, non-disclosure agreement, master service agreements, complex framework agreements and tenders and taking a leading role in co­ordinating counsel initiatives with the global contracts practice group;

· 
Litigation : advising and handling claims including amicable settlement of disputes, actively managing the handling of claims by external lawyers and undertaking investigations;

· 
Corporate matters: the legal aspects of EY Indonesia corporate structure and governance;

· 
Regulatory: Providing legal input on compliance and regulatory matters (eg. data privacy, data protection and cross-border data transfer and storage) and responding to regulatory inquiries (eg. assurance work paper access requests from Indonesian authorities, US PCAOB/SEC investigations, tax audit);

· 
Partnership and HR : providing legal advice on partnership and employment matters;

· 
General legal advice: providing legal advice to the firm’s service lines and to our internal support functions such as procurement, finance, HR, IT, knowledge and business development.

Qualifications and experience

· 
A high quality lawyer with approximately  2-5 years of post­qualification experience.

· 
Having litigation experience and Advocate License would be advantageous point.

· 
Commercial awareness of the business issues facing the organization and the ability to deal with problems in a practical and common sense way, including looking at matters holistically and proactively and finding smarter ways of working while observing legal principles, ethical values and the firm’s policies.

· 
Proven ability to establish a high degree of credibility, respect and trust at all levels, including with senior members of the firm, some of whom have a considerable understanding of the law.

· 
Ability to lead, take responsibility and act autonomously including an ability to take difficult decisions and provide substantiated arguments.

· 
Strong personal communication skills, capable of dealing with wide range of people up to and including organization’s leadership.

· 
Effective planning and organizing skills to prioritize key areas of responsibility, tasks and projects.

· 
The ability to keep calm in a crisis and to cope well with conflicting deadlines.
