The FTTX Network Surveyor reports to the Fibre Services Manager and is based in Guildford (or could be negotiable)
Role Purpose:
Responsible for the production of information that is compiled from a network survey of proposed telecommunication duct routes in the public highway. This information will be used to produce CAD / GIS drawing that represent chosen fibre routes and schematic drawings.
In addition to the information for the site drawings, the surveyor will also be responsible for producing the health and safety information required under the CDM regulations, (2015), and all associated supporting data.
To work with the Design team to ensure that the final low level designs that are completed adhere to the end customer design rules and are the cost efficient
Key Accountabilities:
Survey the public highway to design or review a design for a duct route that will be economical to build and easy to maintain
Record the red line data on ordinance survey maps or electronic device
Outline all health and safety risks and CDM remarks
Illustrate where traffic management may be applicable
Locate suitable cabinet positions for distribution points
Where applicable, mark chamber positions on red lines
Locate any section 58 areas (Section of highway that have recently been resurfaced and will still be under a guarantee period, with restrictions).
Mark on drawing any private areas as LOC, (Limit of Construction).
Locate SED’s (Special Engineering Difficulties), such as bridges and culverts
Where applicable, mark up ideal customer connection point from the highway the residential/ business premise
Produce a full address list including all businesses
Contact the local authority highways department and confirm highway adoptions
Liaise with schools to understand school hours and holiday periods
Skills and behaviours required
Experience of surveying for UK fixed and cable operator fibre design, including detailed knowledge of their planning guidelines and ways of working on GPON, FTTX and HFC networks.
Good understanding of fibre network architectures and network topologies
Good knowledge of CAD / GIS application(s)
Good knowledge of passive components applicable to FTTx networks and FTTx deployment technologies.
Good knowledge of planning from exchange/head end to customer premises
Good knowledge of CDM Regulations and up-to-date working knowledge of related legislation
Good knowledge of private way leave and customer consents
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Good understanding of construction techniques & materials
