The Optimize NL team is engaged in a long term Network Performance and Optimization activities for Mobile Network Operators in the Netherlands. The quality of the mobile networks in the Netherlands is ranked among the few best in the world. As guardians of the network quality, the team members are responsible for Detecting, Analyzing and Resolving all performance anomalies and potential quality improvements in the 2G,3G and 4G Mobile networks. The current team consists of Radio Access Network and IT specialists who are analyzing large amounts of data (e.g. 15min statistical counter information, event logs and configurations from ten-thousands of network elements) every hour of every day.

We invite Data Science students to conduct an Internship or Master's Thesis assignment to complement the RAN and IT expert team with knowledge about the latest ML/AI algorithms and related computer science and IT. That allows you to bring the knowledge and techniques as acquired in your study into practice while it can help us understanding how to efficiently and effectively handle and analyze our big data streams, now and also in the future where data volumes will further grow as the result of IoT and 5G technologies.

We are flexible and would be able to define a number of different assignments, one example of an Internship or Graduation assignment for a Data Scientist within Ericsson NL, could look like this:

1) selecting a number of use cases in the daily Network Performance Management and Optimization activities that could be improved by new ML/AI automations

2) selecting the most suitable ML/AI models or other algorithms for the selected use cases

3) setup environment for conducting lab experiments and trials

4) perform Proof of Concepts by doing experiments and trials in order to test feasibility of the chosen models and algorithms

5) train AI models with training data and validate them

6) support setup of production environment and initiate first test runs

In this assignment you will work together with our Radio Access Network and IT specialists with traffic data from Mobile network equipment.

We certainly like to talk to you if you recognize yourself in the following profile:

• You are successfully advancing with your studies in (economic) computer science, statistics or mathematics.

• You are familiar with Machine / Deep Learning and Artificial Intelligence software suites and libraries such as Apache MlLib, H2o.ai, Caffe, Torch, Theano, Tensor Flow, Scikitlearn, Keras.

• Ideally, you have experience in pattern recognition, modeling, clustering, text analysis, and the ability to understand the different machine learning principles and methods.

• You have a good overview of tools commonly used in big data environments, such as Apache Hadoop, Storm, Spark, Spark Streaming, Kafka, Hive and Pig.

• You are familiar with object-oriented programming languages ​​such as Ruby, Python, Scala, Java etc.

• You have an understanding of model optimization methods, such as Bayesian optimization.

• Virtualization tools like R-package, Plotly or matplotlib are very well known to and used by you.

• You have good communication skills (in English) and are able to work in multi-disciplinary teams.
