Paris / Brussels / Europe

Head of Operations for R-GBU Europe

 

 

Renewables Global Business Unit (R-GBU) is supporting the Group to accelerate Renewables (RES) asset development with an EBIT around €1.1Bn. We count 4,000 employees and more than 50 nationalities across 20 countries. With an installed capacity of 32 GW across 4 Operational Areas, R-GBU manages a diversified portfolio of assets including Solar (3.5 GW), Wind (10.9 GW) and Hydro (17.7 GW) assets. Our ambition is to multiply by 2.6 our installed capacity with 80 GW in 2030.

 

 

Roles and Responsabilities : 

 

The roles and responsibilities assigned to the Performance Manager and CPPA (Corporate Power Purchase Agreements) Expert are to :

 

·  Support PPA development
·  Manage the PPA pipeline across our portfolio, track activities and progress
·  Support the countries in constructing detailed business cases
·  Conduct the review of all PPAs, participate or lead governance update on this topic, update our PPA Golden Rules and pro-actively share them within Europe
·  Prepare EU and RGBU Commitment Committees / Excom to approve transactions
·  Provide full support on all aspects of transaction evaluation and execution – in particular provide critical view of split of risks and rewards/ upstream versus downstream risks
·  Build relationships with and/or challenge intermediaries/advisers and internal counterparts (esp. GEMS, countries, RGBU HQ)
·  Build capabilities to understand and challenge PPA prices offers: create own internal models (based on long term price references, brick risks, market factors), build library of internal and external price references
·  Help identify business and operational synergies and risks / participate to risk assessment
·  Work closely with the Head of Energy Management Europe in following up PPA activity, participate to monthly RLEMs with countries, to specific Commitment Committees regarding files with PPA, and identify commercial opportunities across the portfolio
·  Animate the community of PPA manager in Europe (share best practices, organize webinars and annual seminars)
·  If needed, support deal process and negotiation preparation including strategy development and drafting of templates or documents such as term sheets, MOUs, offer letters, etc.
·  Support battery development
·  In close collaboration with BD team and other ENGIE entities (GEMS, Flex Gen, Battery cockpit), work on assessing opportunities across Europe and contribute to the development of battery opportunities
·  Support proactively any transversal subject regarding battery and expertise-building of EU RGBU
·  Build internal models to assess revenues of each potential streams for all our markets
·  Establish baseline modeling approach to discuss business model at country level, based on technical insights and availability of remuneration mechanisms

 

·  Monitor fleet performance
·  In collaboration with the wind performance officer and the performance manager, closely follow up performance of the EU Res portfolio
·  Actively monitor the EU portfolio of maintenance contract (LTSA) in close collaboration with RGBU O&M Service Performance Manager
·  Follow up country strategy regarding maintenance strategy
·  Follow up LTSA renegotiation activity and organize contract reviews of term and conditions before signature
·  Other missions
·  Coordination: closely work with operational entities to foster best practices sharing, disseminate studies and expertise
·  Realize benchmarking / strategic studies: lead multi-disciplinary work group dedicated to strategic / regional internal and external benchmarking studies to provide meaningful insight on the fleet performance improvement levers
·  Communication to RGBU / EUROPE COMEX: prepare and/or coordinate the preparation of the documents submitted by EUROPE OPERATIONS to the management;  disseminate these documents to the operational network, mindful of confidentiality issues.

 

The incumbent will be a direct report of the VP of Europe Operations . The role does not include management responsibilities.

 

 

Team and work environment:

 

RENEWABLE OPERATIONS EUROPE general missions are to:

 

 

·  Set HSE objectives and monitor results for Renewables activities in close coordination with Group Global Care department. Deploy HSE Guidelines in the entities of the GBU
·  Define ambitious set of Operational KPI for operating assets
·  Monitor fleet performance and support operational entities with detection of underperformance & degradation, permanently challenging performance of O&M suppliers
·  Design and implement asset management guidelines
·  Coordinate with GEM the development of Corporate PPAs
·  Ensure and monitor commercial performance (PPA, markets), managing the exposure of the GBU to commodity, intermittency, profile and basis risk
·  Develop new business-models offerings: Corporate PPAs, financial optimization (DBOO partnerships), RES hybridization, non-intermittent renewables
·  Provide technical expertise to business development and operations for site selection, resource assessment, technology and design
·  Anticipate the roll-out of new technologies and steer R&D efforts with Group’s R&T
·  Ensure accurate, timely, reliable and exhaustive data collection for all assets in portfolio through Darwin and other digital tools ; provide data analytics based on information collected to operational regions through fleet performance analysis

Operations Europe entity works in close cooperation with RGBU Operational Support, Europe support functions (Finance, Asset Management, BD and projects) as well European countries (Engie Green, CNR, SHEM, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Benelux, Germany, Poland, Romania, Ocean Winds)

 

The role is based in Paris or Europe, with travelling in Europe (1-2 nights per month).

Required qualifications:

 

 

Skills / specific knowledge:

·  Proficiency in identifying and pursuing potential business opportunities with strong negotiation techniques on Corporate PPAs
·  Market Knowledge: knowledge of the European energy market is essential and an understanding of how the economic and regulatory environment can impact this.
·  Autonomy: The successful candidate will be an autonomous individual capable of taking initiative.
·  Collaboration: A strong team player with the motivation to share ideas and collaborate, and ability to connect with other teams.
·  Ambition: Must be ambitious with the ability to open new doors.

Language: English proficiency is a requirement; knowledge of French, German, Spanish, and Italian is a plus
