ENGIE are recruiting for a Linen Assistant to be based in the University Hospital of North Durham, North Road, Durham DH1 5TW. This is a permanent, part-time role working 15 hours per week (Monday / Wednesday / Friday: 7am -12 noon). On offer is a salary of £6,981 per annum.  

Reporting to the Domestic Supervisor, the Linen Assistant will provide linen services in line with the Linen Contract requirements.

Specific Responsibilities/Duties:



·  Responsible for all stages of preparation of staff uniforms prior to issue – including hemming, alterations, marking, pressing and bagging.
·  To undertake cleaning tasks, both planned and reactive, throughout the hospital to the required standard, using correct cleaning materials, equipment and methods.
·  Record all such issues and deal with routine enquiries from staff.
·  Assist with fitting staff for uniforms.
·  Responsible for the labelling of hospital linen prior to use.
·  Carry out repairs to uniforms and linen owned by the Trust.
·  Undertake private sewing works for hospital employees and public.
·  Undertake quality control checks of all linen at point of delivery to maintain agreed/required linen standards.
·  Responsible for storing and maintaining equipment in clean and tidy condition.
·  Assist with stock replenishment for wards and departments.
·  May occasionally be required to support in other service areas, as directed.
·  Undertake mandatory training necessary to the role as follows:
·  Use of linen and sewing room equipment
·  Use of correct cleaning materials
·  Manual handling
·  Health & Safety at work
·  COSHH and Fire Safety
·  Special cleans, i.e. Termination and MRSA type infection control cleans
·  NVQ Level 2

Skills / Experience:

·  Willing to undertake mandatory training essential to the role (as outlined above)
·  Previous experience of basic sewing skills (hemming, etc)
·  Good communication and customer care skills
·  Previous experience of cleaning duties
·  Knowledge of Health and Safety
·  Previous experience of working in a hospital (or similar environment) would be advantageous
