Job description

ENGIE are recruiting for Catering Assistants X2 to be based in Luton & Dunstable Hospital, Lewsey Road, Luton LU4 0DZ. These are permanent, full-time roles working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a salary of £15,054 per annum.

Reporting into the Retail Catering Manager, these roles are responsible for providing a safe, hygienic, nutritious and timely food service for staff, visitors and patients.  They will assist in the delivery of a high standard of food service which meets the requirements of food hygiene legislation, Company Food Safety Policy and national standards as dictated by the government's national plan.  The Catering Assistants work within established catering routines, using their own initiative as appropriate in the provision of the Catering Service to staff and visitors within the dining room and various coffee outlets.


Main Responsibilities/Duties Include:


·  Maintaining safe systems of work
·  Maintaining high standards of personal and general food hygiene as well as high standards of cleanliness in all work areas
·  Receipt and storage of supplies
·  Notifying supervisors immediately of any concerns regarding quantities or quality issues of food or food products
·  Plating of meals in dining room and kitchen area
·  Use of dishwasher
·  Ensure areas are adequately stocked and records of requisitions are completed
·  Service of meals and beverages for staff and patients and visitors, ensuring portion control
·  Delivery of functions
·  Minimising food waste wherever possible
·  Recording of waste food
·  Advising supervisors of any changes to orders
·  Record keeping including HACCP records
·  Taking and recording of food temperatures and seeking further instruction where these are outside of critical limits
·  To assist in the preparation of basic food and simple cooking as required
·  Take fridge and freezer temperatures twice a day, also temperatures from reheated and hot holding dishes and record readings on appropriate forms
·  Using written standards make initial decisions about the acceptability of the readings
·  Cleaning and wash up of all equipment, machinery, crockery and cutlery associated with the service
·  Operations of dining rooms cash register including float and change control
·  Cashing up and security of cash
·  Topping up of all cleaning materials in work area as required
·  Appropriate disposal of waste
·  Reporting faulty equipment and hazards to duty supervisor or catering management
·  Ensure that a high standard of personal grooming is maintained including wearing the required uniform and PPE provided.
