The Role: Applications Engineer
Purpose
The Application Engineer is a dynamic role that will provide a challenging cross-functional work environment. The role will sit within the product team and provide vital technical support to the commercial team to grow ENGIE Storage’s commercial, industrial, and utility energy storage system business lines.
The Application Engineer will need to quickly build a detailed technical understanding of the hardware and software product capabilities, and the context in which they interact with the built plant at a project site. They will be the go-to resource to manage the design of project-specific energy storage solutions and support the commercial team through the sales process.

Essential Job Functions
Work closely with the commercial team to craft project-specific energy storage solutions, from battery all the way to the point of interconnection
Work with the internal product team and external design and engineering resources to produce technical packages to support commercial proposals
Manage the technical package that accompanies the handoff from sales to project managers after contract execution
Manage specialists in the drafting of electrical single line diagrams and layouts, while guiding the design of the metering and SCADA system based on ENGIE Storage’s proprietary GridSynergy control platform
Support the project development team with technical expertise for permitting and interconnection applications
Share your knowledge and insights effectively with others, be it through training, documentation, presentations or informal exchanges
Provide engineering support to external customers including Project Developers, EPCs, Independent Engineering Firms, Utility Companies, etc.
Provide engineering support to the internal sales and business development teams
Create analysis and configuration tools to streamline quotation and project proposal processes
Write White Paper and Application Notes on FAQs and providing technical resources to sales team and customers
Support project managers with expertise on the energy storage system hardware and GridSynergy controls products during the construction, installation, and commissioning phases
Interface and collaborate with customer’s engineering team to support pre and post sales efforts and become a trusted technical advisor to the customer engineering staff
Provide customer feedback on new product/development to the product management team
Support internal technical document control and management
Carries out other duties as assigned
Requirements
· Experience in utility-scale energy storage systems
· Experience in an applications engineering role
· Proficient in AutoCAD or other drawing software to generate standard engineering drawing packages
· Thorough understanding of system engineering including NFPA/NEC code compliance, local jurisdiction safety regulation, mechanical design, etc.
· Customer facing experiences, able to understand the customer needs and communicate to customer effectively
· EIT certification / PE license preferred
· Excellent written and oral communication skills, as you will need to describe new requirements to our product management team and you’ll need to communicate product knowledge to the sales, business development, and project management teams
· Excellent quantitative analytical skills: you’ll be helping to configure and make design decisions on energy storage installations
· Self-starter, strong initiative and strong organizational skills
· Strong project management skills with an ability to manage a number of parallel workflows, schedules, and deliverables
· Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally.
· Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy.
Essential Physical Abilities
· Ability to meet highest attendance requirements
· Ability to use personal computer, calculator, etc.
· Could involve some lifting.
· Ability to travel 20% of the time
Education/Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required
· Electrical engineering advanced degree preferred
· Minimum 5 years overall experiences in Engineering discipline role
· Minimum 3 years electrical design experience from PV, wind, energy storage, or traditional generation
· Experience reading and marking up single-line diagrams
· Experience filing and negotiating utility interconnection agreements, preferably in New England.
· Proven track record in tough technical problem-solving skills and an ability to lead/guide engineering initiatives
