Job description

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Design engineering support and project management of cost reduction projects consisting of component redesign, sub-system redesign, and approval of alternate suppliers for products including gas/electric dryers, vertical axis washers, horizontal axis washers, laundry centers and pedestals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·  Redesign of components to improve material cost or to avoid material price increases while improving product quality, function/performance, and reliability
·  Project management that includes interfacing through cross-discipline teams involving suppliers, purchasing, materials, marketing, R&D, quality, safety, and manufacturing
·  Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, resolve problems, meet deadlines, and handle fast paced critical work environment
·  Responsible for development and approval of test plans and part quality plans for designed or resourced components and assemblies utilizing the expertise from other departments to help build the plans
·  Perform component development, evaluation, and certification per agency requirements (UL, AGA, CSA, DOE, etc).
·  Plan and approve work performed by Engineering Model Shop, T&E Lab, Reliability Testing, and Home Economics Personnel.  A hands-on approach is a must to fully understand project scope and work efficiently with lab personnel
·  Work with manufacturing on scheduling and performing pre-production and production pilot runs to support the process qualification for the projects
·  Prepare and direct preparation of engineering documentation (BOM’s, ECN’s, etc)
·  Oversee disposition of PPAP’s on assigned components and assemblies\Prepare and maintain project schedules, alerting management of off track exceptions
·  Prepare and present detailed project reviews for assigned projects
·  Lead or participate with cross-functional teams to support production lines as required
·  Have regular contact with outside suppliers and internal manufacturing areas by providing engineering analysis of proposed designs and design requirements
·  Ability to lead and implement projects off site from production facility in Juarez, Mexico
·  Open mindset to challenge project timelines, current designs, and/or manufacturing methods to improve product costs
·  Generate ideas that lead to cost take out opportunities
·  Ability to understand, communicate and enforce Electrolux Home Products policy as it pertains to supplier and internal issues
·  Travel as required to manufacturing facility in Juarez, Mexico, to facilitate project implementation and provide support to the local purchasing team
·  Ability to use tools to retrofit parts and trouble shoot units in the lab

Desired profile

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

·  Bachelor degree in Engineering
·  Minimum 3 years in Cost Reduction/Productivity and Cost outs experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED

·  Automotive and Appliance experience a plus
·  Strong analytical skills and spreadsheets including should cost modeling and budgetary analysis of projects
·  Strong technical knowledge in order to develop and perform testing plans for components and manufacturing process
·  A working knowledge of quality systems, and statistical data analysis
·  Strong project management and risk assessment skills
·  Expertise in internal and external manufacturing processes and the cost drivers associated with them.
·  Material flow process knowledge of components (lead times in tooling, testing, developing, tier 2 suppliers, etc)
·  Ability to communicate with individuals in foreign countries in technical language.  Bilingual or trilingual a plus to push the appliance supplier base to foreign countries.
·  Outstanding leadership skills including leading supplier resources and cross functional teams
·  Spanish is a plus
·  Six Sigma certification is a plus
