Saltend Power Station, located in East Yorkshire, is a 1200MW combined cycle gas turbine cogeneration power plant. The plant supplies up to 240 tonnes per hour of process steam and 100MW of electrical power to the adjacent chemicals park, with the remaining electrical power sold onto the UK electricity market. Purpose of the Job:
The Shift Operations Technician, works in a shift team and contributes towards the safe and efficient operation of the power plant, ensuring operational targets are achieved safely, commercially and within the environmental limits of the station. The Shift Operations Technician responsibilities include the start-up and shutdown of the plant in accordance with defined operating instructions, while working to site procedures to ensure reliable and efficient performance is achieved.
Key Accountabilities:
• Hold safety responsibilities under the site safety rules authorisation
• Ensure production targets are achieved safely, commercially and within environmental limits of the station
• Liaise with other site teams on operational performance issues
• Perform plant inspections and fault diagnosis.
• Carry out isolations and de-isolations of plant and equipment
• Control and operate the DCS equipment
• Maintain interface with the owner, customer, legal authorities, National Grid, suppliers, contractors and other interested parties
• Broaden experience and competence through training and development
• Deliver outcomes in all areas of work consistent with quality, health, safety and environmental management
• Develop operating instructions, procedures, documentation, drawings and manuals in line with business processes, applicable standards and legal compliance

• No reportable accidents as a result of failures of the safe system of work
• No reportable permit breaches directly attributable to O&M operations
• Achieve plant availability and efficiency targets
• Assess and prepare work under the site safety rules
• Operate the plant, perform plant inspections, isolations and return to service
• Liaise with relevant stakeholders and business partners
• Achieve operational competence through training and development requirements
• Support line manager and liaise with other station teams to achieve plant targets

Desired profile
Qualifications
• HNC/ONC or equivalent in a related discipline desirable
• Craft or process based Apprenticeship in a related discipline
Knowledge and Skills:
• Plant operation in a power generation or process based environment
• Plant inspection, fault diagnosis and routine work on plant and auxiliary equipment
• Safety rules and safe system of work
• Health, safety and environmental management knowledge
• Able to achieve production targets within strict limits of operation
• Analytical and problem solving skills
• Able to take ownership of problems and offer solutions
• Team player who is able to work as part of a shift team
• Communicate information clearly and concise to different stakeholders
• Computer literature with working knowledge of computerised management systems
• Knowledge and understanding of rotating plant
Experience:
• Previous experience in a power plant or process based environment
• Plant inspection, fault diagnosis and routine maintenance
