Communications Assistant eBay UK

The Role Overview

eBay UK has an exciting opportunity for a graduate to join the UK communications team on a 6-month contract. The Communications Assistant will experience the dynamic and fast-paced environment of an in-house communications team. They will be required to support on a number of different activities ranging from regular internal events, to key seasonal campaigns and assisting on general day-to-day running of the busy eBay press office.  The successful candidate will have an appetite for communications as well as an eagerness to learn about the retail and e-commerce environment.

Scope of the Role:

Day job 70%

·  Support in the handling of media enquiries, sharing enquiries with relevant team member and supporting on any information required
·  Managing the daily media updates every morning to be shared with key internal stakeholders, locally and globally
·  Managing the new online media centre – uploading all relevant content in a timely appropriate fashion
·  Liaising with Prime, our evaluation agency, ensuring that all coverage is evaluated effectively
·  Partnering with our PR agencies to ensure that proposed data requests are appropriately managed
·  General support to team on logistics, travel, meetings, general operations
·  Supporting on key projects such as location scouting, supporting briefing sessions, brainstorming ideas, attending agency meetings
·  Attending launch events when required (this may be out of office hours)
·  Ad hoc monitoring of social media – spotting opportunities and potential issues
·  Media eyes and ears – keeping abreast of media landscape – identifying opportunities
·  Joining internal meetings across the business
·  Joining agency meetings – including regular press office and projects updates as well as quarterly reviews

Consumer 10%

·  Propose media opportunities to the Launch PR press office team - taking advantage of any proactive media moments
·  Support on the curation and maintenance of the press story calendar to ensure key retail/calendar moments are celebrated accordingly

Corporate 10%

·  Assist with insight gathering for news pieces
·  Contribute to regular corporate news ideas sharing sessions with the wider team

Internal 10%

·  Support on delivering messages to UK business
·  Support on the organisation of internal events 
·  Support on the creation of content for internal channels

Experience Required

·  Degree level, ideally in communications, media or PR - essential
·  Excellent writing skills (English) and strong verbal communication skills - essential
·  Work experience at a media outlet/house or PR agency - desirable
·  Confident eBayer - essential
·  Ability to build a detailed understanding of the issues affecting eBay – desirable
·  Knowledge of a wide range of UK traditional and social media outlets  – essential
·  Competent on Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as Outlook - essential
