Eaton's Headquarter of the Electrical Solutions & Services (ESS) has an opening for a:

 

Design Engineer (New Product Development)

 

location: Hengelo, the Netherlands

 

Eaton's production plant in Hengelo Overijssel employs around 850 people and develops, manufactures and sells products for the switching, distribution and safety of electrical power at low and medium voltage.

 

For our R&D department we are looking for a mechanical engineer with affinity for electrical low and medium voltage systems. The main responsibility will be to design and engineer new Low Voltage Systems solutions in a project environment for both new product development or customer orders. The incumbent will be also responsible to deliver a product design on time, meeting market specifications, expected product quality and manufacturability and with the expected product costs.

 

 

Essential Functions:

 

· 
Accountable within the project team for the agreement initiated during the planning phase of a project. Track own activities and escalate when issues occur

· 
Proactively identify risks and look for solutions within the design including reaching out to peers and subject matter experts

· 
Promote and be open to a changing environment, Accept design feedback from different stakeholders

· 
Keep track of development progress, Set up regular reviews to prioritize and manage actions,

· 
Keep track of the requirements clarifying the strategy to achieve them. Execute the strategy according the plan approved by engineering manager

· 
Use of product quality design tools like DFSS (Design For Six Sigma).

· 
Accompany of laboratory tests following product validation plans setup within the project team, including necessary correcting actions

· 
Use of DFx methodologies for optimization of manufacturability and assimilability

· 
Control the release of parts and assemblies for production in cooperation with the production facility

· 
Support in defining marketing and product specifications by providing technical input to the product management team

· 
Organizational relationships:

· 
Documenting R&D activities, design output and decisions.

· 
Escalate engineering risks and issue when solution is not to be found with own knowledge

· 
Provide input to project management regarding product development planning

· 
Analyze the technical solutions and the development strategy together with the engineering manager

· 
Cooperate in the project team with Operations

· 
Cooperate with testing department

· 
Needs to have a good communication with Supply Chain, Sales and Marketing

· 
Regular contact with suppliers including co-development initiatives

· 
Contact with clients

 

 

Qualifications:

 

· Knowledge and experience on mechanical engineering on B.Sc degree

· Knowledge and experience on CAD/PDM and related calculations tools as FEM

· Knowledge and experience with design and quality programs like Project Stage Gate Models and DFSS (Design For Six Sigma)

· Good communication and interpersonal skills with relation to international customers, suppliers and colleagues
