DXC Unix support (Onshore) operates a 24x7 follow-the-sun model, providing technical support across client’s global Unix estate. You will be supporting one of DXCs major banking clients as part of the Delivery organisation.
The Unix Level 3 team provides expert technical Unix support and escalation for the Global Unix Level 1 and Level 2 teams. In addition, the Unix level 3 team works closely with Incident / Problem Management and other Global Infrastructure support teams to resolve high priority and complex incidents, and liaises directly with clients to provide solutions to meet their infrastructure requirements.
The Unix Level 3 team are Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for the Unix Infrastructure and technologies which they support and develop and document process and procedures to enable the Unix Level 1 and Level 2 teams to effectively and efficiently manage the environment.

Scope of estate
All DXC owned Configuration Items where primary support group is HP_GLOBAL_UNIX or HP_GLOBAL_UNIX_BESTSHORE within the account referenced CMDB.
These include Development, UAT, CONUAT, Pre-production, Production and Disaster Recovery environments.
Proactive management of all aspects of UNIX System support for in-scope UNIX Systems, including but not limited to the following:
System Administration
Perform UNIX System Administrator tasks and provide general proactive management of all in scope UNIX systems, in line with account policies, processes and procedures.
MUST have a good understanding of working within AIX
Working Hours
Core hours are 08:00 – 16:30 - There will be an element of out of hours work at weekends to cover changes and also on-call on a rota basis.
Routine Housekeeping activities
· Daily, weekly, monthly management checks and remediation
Volume and Filesystem provision and maintenance activities
· Filesystem related tasks (eg increase / decrease, add / remove, defragmentation)
· Volume related tasks
· Monitoring and remediation
Incident Handling and Troubleshooting
· Provide active technical support to log, investigate and resolve all customer raised and automated incidents, in line with account SLAs.
· Where Regulatory Watch or Critical Apps this should be responded to <=12 mins
· Where Medium apps this should be responded to <=13 mins
· Where Low apps this should be responded to <=17 mins
Planned and Emergency Change preparation and implementation
· Provide technical support to prepare, plan and schedule planned and emergency changes within the UNIX OS and associated environments, in line with account processes and procedures.
· Operational Service Requests will be completed as follows:
· P1&2: within 24hrs (if not completed within shift the assigned owner is responsible for handing over to the next shift and responsible for ensuring the request is completed in full)
· P3&4: within 72hrs (if time allows these can be carried over to the assigned owner’s next shift)
Direct customer support and interface with client service request systems
· Provide cover for 24*7 escalation support service
· Review, approve, allocate / schedule incoming Incidents, Changes, and Service Requests
Vendor Engagement and activity co-ordination
· Undertake activities under direction from team lead or manager to manage and coordinate third party hardware and software vendors
System Maintenance
· Install/upgrade UNIX OS and related third party software patches in line with the account Change Management and Technology Roadmap
Security Management (compliance and remediation)
· Analyse manage and resolve security & compliance issues in line with account policies.
Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Planning tests (in and outside of Business Hours)
· Participate in scheduled DR exercises and BCPs, reviews and improvement activities as directed by DXC leader and DR Co-ordinator
Planned Maintenance (in and outside of Business Hours)
· Provide support for planned maintenance events such as (but not limited to)
· Data Centre power downs
· Switch upgrades
· Technical refresh activities
Maintain Asset Management Database
· Ensure asset management database is kept up to date following any changes
· Maintain DXC account’s asset library (DB or DXC management tool)
· Provide interface to deliver and maintain asset management data accordingly to DXC / DB account specification, e.g. in XML-format.
Operational Acceptance Process (Activation)
· Undertake activities to on-board servers into the operational support status, as requested from team lead or manager
Skills and experience
· Communications skills
· Mastery of the English language, with excellent written and verbal skills
· Proactive in communicating and selection of audience according to topic
· Highly organised and capable of tracking a variety of tasks to closure in parallel
· Good time management principles and effective in prioritizing workloads.
· Solid meeting management principles, with ability to arrange and host meetings or conference calls for 2 – 20+ participants.
