Purpose
The beer category is a key strategic priority for Diageo and the Category Manager drives our category development efforts. This position will be based out of New York City and the individual will work out of the Diageo NYC office. Travel is on average 40% or less.
The Category Development Manager provides important assistance to strategic accounts by providing consumer and customer focused category management strategies, tactics, insights and category solutions. Team is tasked with developing/maintaining strategic/consultative relationship with key chain accounts.
The Category Development Manager is a key advisor to the strategic account(s) buying teams by providing thought leadership, category solutions, innovation/assortment recommendations, promotion optimization and overall Category Management excellence.

Supports overall category development team processes and ways of working to ensure high quality of deliverables.

Brings compelling, actionable insights, which will inspire strategic accounts to implement strategies to drive beer category growth, leading to more strategic & consultative relationships.

Be the indispensable business advisor on the beer business, partnering with the Chain Sales Team to bring a category/shopper focus to key initiatives.

Partner with the Marketing Communications/brand teams to develop actionable insights that will support category driving initiatives.
Financial Responsibility
·
Responsible for determining and closing customer opportunity gaps and volume potential to the category in key focus accounts.

Responsible for managing to the assigned T&E budget
Complexity of Role
·
Has a solid understanding of business, financials, products/services, the market, and the needs of our strategic customers; will help develop colleagues' understanding; will be recognized as the Beer category expert.

Complexity is high (territory/accounts, products/services, sales or account management process); serves as category management team lead.
·
The role requires a significant level of collaboration and the ability to influence decisions within the Leadership/Chain Sales Team, Customer Marketing, Finance, Brand Teams and CP&R.

Deep understanding of category management practices and ways of working
·
Coordinate with cross-functional teams – sales and customer marketing
Key Outputs/Deliverables
·
Strategic category direction provided to the Leadership/Chain Team, reflective of customer inputs, and shopper/consumer insights.

Ownership of strategic/consultative relationship with key Chain Accounts
·
Category roles, strategies, & tactics built around and aligned with customer
·
Delivery of key category projects for non-focus chain accounts per requested deadlines
Experience
·
Undergraduate degree required.
·
3+ years of relevant experience.
·
Category Management training with significant customer interface, including relevant software skills.
·
Sales experience preferred within beverage alcohol or leading CPG.
·
Demonstrated success in influencing and building relationships across businesses and functions and with customers.
·
Proven experience informing and influencing sales management through developed presentation skills
·
Skilled in project management and leverages process to create efficient work streams
